U.K. officials, doctors decry Trump's remarks on London stabbings

Trump said reports of stabbings in London showed that gun control isn't effective at preventing violence, sparking outrage abroad.

".....British reports last month followed headlines stating that London's murder rate had surpassed that of New York. However, multiple analyses have since debunked that claim, noting that New York saw 292 murders last year, while London reported 130. The cities have similar population sizes.

Stabbings in the British capital have been on the increase this year. But Labour Party lawmaker Sarah Jones tweeted at Trump, "U.K. knife crime nowhere near your off-the-scale gun deaths."....

Brohi, a fellow Royal London Hospital surgeon, stated, "To suggest guns are part of the solution is ridiculous. Gunshot wounds are at least twice as lethal as knife injuries and more difficult to repair." .....

Parkland student rips Trump over NRA speech: 'He's a professional liar'

"He's a professional liar who will say anything to appease whatever crowd he's at," Kasky said.

"If he's in front of families he might say something in support of common-sense gun reform, but then when he's at the NRA he'll say something to get a big cheer."

In the weeks following the Parkland shooting, Trump suggested that he would be open to action on gun control and taking on the NRA, and even criticized a GOP lawmaker for being "afraid" of the gun-rights lobby.

The UK will at least be a cut above the rest.

Live-Streaming the Apocalypse With NRATV

The online streaming service of the National Rifle Association is part lifestyle channel, part gun-lobby orifice—and it wants to make you buy firearms.

"........ that old song, that American standard. You know how it goes: It’s a paranoid’s lullaby.

Above us are the elites with their champagne and free jazz; below us, the suppurating underclass. Also terrorists, sex traffickers, drug cartels, and shiftless migrants. It works, this song ....

No one can make people buy firearms, it's a matter of personal choice. Each individual knows the area they're living in than someone hundreds of miles away.

Oh goodness, how dare they launch a streaming site, it's that pesky First Amendment of free speech again.

Don't like it - DON'T WATCH IT! (guess the site makes liberals tune in )

Sledge hammers can work on hard heads I guess.

The only one that doesn't understand the 1st Amendment is you.   I didn't see where it said the government should ban this streaming site.    All I see is them mocking it, and therefor exercising their freedom of speech to mock.

If YOU don't like it - Don't READ IT!!!!   (but I guess it makes far rights nuts tune in).

I never said the site wants government to ban it, just reacting to people's tender sensibilities

Oh I'm so offended by it, I need a puppy.

But you're the one with the tender sensibilities.   You read this and it impacted your sensibilities and you took the time to post about it.    Instead be a man.

Using that mind control tactic won't work. Typical left, a person not in that crowd can't respond to ANYTHING!

What the article meant by "making people want to buy guns" was that it serves up a steady diet of outrage and fear-mongering to make the viewer feel that their lives are constantly in danger from uncontrolled crime/Islamic terrorists/illegal immigrant gangs/radical leftists/psycho beserkers, etc etc. Add to that the repeated idea that the government just can't wait to take all types of guns from all citizens, and people are made to want to buy guns before "it's too late" or before "they" get you. Those with limited-to-no critical thinking skills will fall for that kind of narrative if they hear it often enough.

Old Marines who illegally sold arms to Iran in exchange for hostages to funnel the profits illegally to Nicaragua never die. They just go on to become Fox News commentators and president of the NRA.

North is well qualified for the job as NRA President;  he knows all about how to sell illegal guns and can therefore help with legislation to reduce this (e.g. gun shows and transfer between relatives).

But something tells me that isn't part of North's agenda!

That's what Ronny said when some Black Panthers showed up with guns in

Sacramento. Wonder why. I didn't realize Ollie was still around. The bargain

basement version of G. Gordon Liddy.

Thrilled about the Oliver North news.

A total warrior for freedom, this is the last person that anti-gun advocates would want as the new President of the NRA board.

The Logic of the NRA Choosing Ollie North as President -

Why would the group select the Iran-Contra figure as its new leader?

Because its strategy of defensiveness and stalemate has worked well so far.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/05/ollie-north-nra-double-down/559823/?utm_source=atltw

".............After Parkland, it seemed like the seemingly unshakeable stalemate on gun laws was trembling. The power of the Parkland students as advocates for stricter gun laws is remarkable, but so far they have few concrete victories to point to, and their staying power is unknown. In March, Florida added a few new gun regulations that the NRA opposed, but the changes are modest, and also included an NRA-backed idea to allow teachers to carry guns.

Days after LaPierre’s comments in Florida, President Trump demanded stronger gun-control laws, suggested taking guns from people without due process, and mocked lawmakers for being afraid of the NRA. But the president quickly backed off those comments and hasn’t continued to push for controls. He did, however, appear at the NRA convention in Dallas last week, as did Vice President Pence.

At the moment, LaPierre’s post-Parkland strategy seems to have worked. The NRA has found its true north in provocation, so it’s only logical they’d find Ollie North, too."

For those who forgot, he was discharged from the service with loss of rank and benefits until Strom Thurmond got Congress to reinstate them.  Even the Pentagon knew what he had done was illegal and should be punished.

Oliver North vows to “counterpunch” Parkland students, complains NRA is victim of “civil terrorism”

Please @NRA stop bullying these kids. Not only do you allow terrorists to legally buy weapons here at home,

you hired Oliver North who illegally armed Iran!
