So happens I first saw the sign on the Weather Channels "Firestorm" last night that discussed the wives of firefighters fighting them.  Husbands stay away on the job, hundreds of miles away for months.  Guess the woman with 2 kids shouldn't protect herself.

If I was the husband of one of these women,  I'd be mighty careful how I came home late at night, expected or un... and avoiding a messy divorce is often easier on the kids and the finances.

Chicago Mayor to governor in war of words about Dan Ryan march: 'Delete your account'

"........Fr. Pfleger, a priest at St. Sabina Catholic Church, and other anti-violence protesters organized the march in an effort to press city officials to better address gun violence, joblessness and access to quality education.

“We came out here to do one thing: to shut it down,” Pfleger said, as the march wrapped up at 67th Street. “We came here to get their attention. Hopefully we got their attention. … Today was the attention getter, but now comes the action.”

Gov. Bruce Rauner posted a message on Twitter expressing his displeasure at the expressway shutdown, saying the full northbound lane closure was not what had been negotiated.

“This is unacceptable,” Rauner tweeted at noon. “We had clear parameters that allowed the protestors to be heard while respecting law and order. Instead, they chose instead to cause chaos.”

In a second posting, he criticized Mayor Rahm Emanuel........

..... Earlier, demonstrators gathered near 79th and State streets. Some hoisted signs that read “NO MORE DRUG WAR” and “NO GUNS,” with an illustration of a handgun crossed out. Another sign read “They Don't Care About Us,” with pictures of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Gov. Bruce Rauner on each side. Some of them held up signs with the names of homicide victims. ...........

The Utah Gun Exchange is following the Parkland students around the country to combat their call for more gun laws

"..........students continue to hold rallies and town halls calling for new gun regulations after repeated mass shootings. It is a political movement sparked by the massacre of 17 people at a Florida high school in February.

Now, an owner of a Utah online gun marketplace has taken the company’s military-style armored vehicle on the road, following these students and holding counter-rallies. That includes urging its members to attend a March for Our Lives town hall in Salt Lake County this weekend,.....

Photographing America’s armed educators

A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THE SHOOTING at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, I began to seek out schools in America that planned to arm teachers, or already had. When working in the US, my projects largely focus on Texas—a state with a long and ingrained relationship with firearms, and the birthplace of many of America’s contemporary ideas about arming teachers.

In 2007, after the mass shooting at Virginia Tech, David Thweatt, superintendent of Harrold Independent School District in North Texas, began quietly encouraging his teachers to keep handguns in the classroom. “We flew under the radar for about a year,” says Thweatt. Working with his school board and a team of lawyers, Thweatt created the Guardian Plan, which legalized the carrying of pistols by teachers. “The names of our Guardians are kept confidential,” Thweatt wrote in The Washington Post earlier this year, “and they are paid a small yearly stipend in addition to their regular salaries to have them carry concealed handguns at school.”

Thweatt: “‘Guns and children don’t mix’: that is the aphorism they love to say. But guns mix with everything and always have. It’s just a tool. That is like saying hammers and kids don’t mix; well, they don’t if you’re aiming it at their thumbs.” Photo by Spike Johnson.

Guns, God, And Trump: How An Accused Russian Agent Wooed US Conservatives

It’s hard to tell how much of the story 29-year-old Maria Butina told Americans about herself for years is real. But it's clear that her persona — a scrappy girl from Siberia fighting for Russian gun rights — was carefully calibrated to appeal to US conservatives.

" What is clear is that in Butina, the Russian government either found or created an irresistible persona for US conservatives. The story she repeated over years of speeches and interviews — of a scrappy girl from Siberia fighting for gun rights in Russia — was carefully calibrated to show a passion for self-defense, a yearning for America’s easy access to guns, and a hint of criticism of Russia’s own laws. ......

Butina also seemed to know exactly what a conservative evangelical audience would want to hear, earnestly speaking about the growing number of churches in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the “great history of Christian religion” that she had in common with US evangelicals, her audience.

“When we talk about Russian and American relationships, the main point is Christianity, in both countries,” she told Metaxas.......

In the later years of her work she, Torshin, and Erickson tried to use these connections to set up a “back channel” to communicate with the Trump campaign, send a Russian delegation to the National Prayer Breakfast, and set up a meeting between Torshin and Donald Trump Jr. at the 2016 NRA convention. ....

described her as “a big Trump fan in Russia” who “suddenly showed up here and started hanging around the Trump transition after the election and rented an apartment and enrolled herself at AU, which I assume gets you a visa.”

“I think she is suspicious,” he added, suggesting that she and Torshin were attempting “to infiltrate conservative organizations,” including the NRA.

“And the most absurd about this is that, you know, Vladimir Putin is not in favor of universal gun ownership for Russians. And so it’s all a big charade, basically.”...

on the night of Trump’s election victory when she posted on VK, the Russian equivalent of Facebook: “Well that’s it. America gets a Republican Donald Trump for the next presidential term. Supporter of gun rights and restoration of relations with Russia. Congratulations to all!”

That same night, prosecutors said in their court filings, she messaged Torshin: “I’m going to sleep. It’s 3 a.m. here.

I am ready for further orders."

State Department defends allowing publication of blueprints to 3D print guns

"Just days before digital blueprints that would allow people to 3D print firearms are set to go live online, the State Department is defending the move to allow their publication, even as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo promised to look into the issue.

The Trump administration recently settled with a non-profit after it sued for the right to publish the code.

While a State Department spokesperson pointed out that "the court did not rule in favor of the plaintiffs in this case," the administration settled anyway, in part, because there's no added public safety threat because "certain firearms and related items... are widely available" already, the spokesperson told ABC News....

The impending publication has garnered outrage among gun safety advocates, who warned it could create "untraceable" guns.

The controversy centers around Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson's 2013 suit against the State Department after he was forced to take down blueprints his company posted online.

After a years-long legal battle, Wilson reached a settlement with the State Department to allow his company to post designs of various firearms for 3D printers. Among these weapons is an AR-15 - a weapon commonly known to be used in mass shootings.

Wilson has been vocal on social media about his company's goal to release the designs. After the settlement was reached, Wilson tweeted a photo of a headstone with the words “American Gun Control” engraved....

That has outraged gun safety advocates, with Sen. Ed Markey D-Mass. warning Pompeo to make sure guns “don’t get into the wrong hands.”

Military veterans from Everytown for Gun Safety Veteran Advisory Council are also calling on Pompeo to halt the distribution of the designs.

“We know firsthand the destructive power of firearms and the dangers of firearms in the wrong hands,” the letter states. “We support the federal laws that work to keep the public safe, which rely on criminal background checks to block gun possession by those who pose a danger to society. And we believe strongly that downloadable firearms will undermine those laws, [...].”

I watched the video on one of the news channels.  I can see real problems for FL defending stand your ground without a lot of explaining.  They probably will or the jury will if it gets to trial.
