There is a BIG difference between discriminating and maintaining a safe or comfortable place for those using a facility.  Just as requiring shirts and shoes in most restaurants and stores is not discrimination.  Always wondered why they don't require pants though.

That policy is being implemented, seen this notice a couple of times.

How many CEO's of gun and ammo manufacturers and companies that sell firearms signed it?  None I'll bet.  How many of these CEO's voted for and/or contributed to Republicans?  Probably most.

Sen.
@tedcruz: "I don't think it is a positive thing to see big corporations shifting their focus from their customers

and actually doing what they were created to do into trying to become political players on divisive social issues."

When the political entities are useless and aren't doing what the public wants them to do, then whoever can step up to the plate and fill that vacuum is appreciated by the public.

Ted Cruz: Stopping gun violence could help Elizabeth Warren become president

The Texas Republican also still won't acknowledge that a background check might have stopped the mass shooting in Odessa.

"..... even Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) — an ally who Cruz has backedadmitted last week that recent mass shootings in Odessa and Midland, Texas, might have been prevented by a universal background check law. The shooter reportedly failed a background check, but then obtained an assault-style rifle through a private transaction. .....

What the public wants is irrelevant.

Because in most cases,  there is no such concept \ entity as "the public".

To me politicians should only use 'the public' when they have polling data that shows over 90% of voters agree on something.

Arrogant people like using the term to imply their POV is THE POV.   NOT!

I agree with Cruz here and my gut tells me most progressive do so as well BUT are acting clueless given THE issue at play here; GUNS.

Note that Cruz was reacting to NASCAR and their banning of certain gun ads that feature LEGAL guns.

What if a network banned Gay pride ads?

Even CNN's,  with their anti-gun stance, believes Beto gave the GOP a gift;

https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/13/politics/beto-orourke-guns-debate/index.html

PS:  Of course the GOP will use the slippery-sloop argument against most,  if not all,  gun-control measures like they did against Obama (which was false since Obama didn't take on gun-control even as a lame duck).

Beto is now saying there will not be a slippery-sloop but instead an instance cliff;  the Feds will be confiscating your guns.   No wonder he can't win elections.

It's "slippery slope". I think "slippery sloop" is a wet boat.

O'Rourke responds to 'death threat' from Texas lawmaker

........After O’Rourke’s campaign repeated an abbreviated version of that line from the candidate in a tweet, Briscoe Cain — who represents the state’s House District 128, east of Houston — wrote online:

“My AR is ready for you Robert Francis.”

O’Rourke responded just after midnight to Cain’s post, which was taken down by Twitter. “This is a death threat, Representative. Clearly, you shouldn't own an AR-15—and neither should anyone else,” he wrote...

Ironic that the red-flag laws (like what CA has),   that Texas is considering, would apply to this moron Briscoe Cain.

Thought I would post this link that describes the now defunct 1994 Assault Weapons Ban.  It also describes what the act considered an "assault weapon."

Frankly I don't understand the difference between a regular semi-automatic hunting rifle with a large capacity magazine and an AR-15 which is also a semi-automatic rifle.

NRA Ramped Up Facebook Advertising Immediately After Mass Shootings in El Paso and Dayton

September 16 2019,

'...... At one point in this period, the NRA was spending $29,000 on a day’s worth of Facebook ads, nearly four times as much as before the shootings, .........

“Show that you won’t be intimidated by the toxic anti-gun hatred and threats,” reads one ad, which began running just three days after El Paso. “Punishing law-abiding gun owners is NOT the answer!” read another frequently used ad image. ....

Sandy Hook Promise's chilling back-to-school PSA hopes to prevent mass shootings

"It begins with a smiling teen boy, opening his locker to retrieve the "perfect" backpack that his mom bought him.

It ends with a young girl, in tears, texting a goodbye to her mother as a door opens and foot steps approach.

The "Back to School Essentials" public service announcement, which debuted Wednesday morning, purports to show off the items every student needs to have in the new school year. But in reality, it's a chilling battle cry against school shootings which stresses that these acts of violence can be prevented.

You can watch it here. But be warned: it's upsetting.......

When Is An Open-Carry 'Request' Enforceable:

Gun Owners Test Limits of Retailers' New Policies

.......... The vagueness of the retailers' statements and carefully-worded avoidance of the use of the term "ban" have become something of a Rorschach test, with advocates for reform reading into the apparent victory as a sizeable shift in public policy around guns, while gun-rights activists saw little more than a face-saving measure with dubious enforceability. ........

New Yorkers Head To Washington DC For National Gun Anti-Violence Rally

https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2019/09/25/new-yorkers-head-to-washington-dc-for-national-gun-anti-violence-rally/

Chicago groups join national anti-violence rally in DC

"..........This event coincided with a House hearing about assault-style weapons. The activists who gathered on the Capitol’s West Lawn want a ban on assault-style weapons.

Democrats are pushing several measures, including a ban on high-capacity magazines, expanded background checks and so-called “red flag” laws that would prevent someone in crisis from having access to a firearm.

There is concern among Republicans that “red flag” laws deny due process.

Any new gun legislation that the Democratic-controlled House passes would need to go through the Republican-controlled Senate

where Leader Mitch McConnell has said he is waiting for President Donald Trump to say to what he will support.....

NRA Was 'Foreign Asset' To Russia Ahead of 2016, New Senate Report Reveals

..... an 18-month probe by the Senate Finance Committee's Democratic staff found that the NRA underwrote political access for Russian nationals Maria Butina and Alexander Torshin more than previously known — even though the two had declared their ties to the Kremlin.

...The report, available here, also describes how closely the gun rights group was involved with organizing a 2015 visit by some of its leaders to Moscow.

Then-NRA vice president Pete Brownell, who would later become NRA president, was enticed to visit Russia with the promise of personal business opportunities — and the NRA covered a portion of the trip's costs.

The conclusions of the Senate investigation could have legal implications for the NRA,....

Attorneys general in the state of New York and the District of Columbia are conducting separate probes into alleged wrongdoing at the gun rights organization. These probes have a broader scope than the Senate report, which focuses on Russia. ..

The CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods said his company destroyed over $5 million worth of military-style, semiautomatic guns
and is reviewing whether it'll keep selling guns in store:

"If we do these things and it saves one life, don’t you think it’s worth it?"
