Why did Hardy Kruger refuse his Golden Globe nomination for "The Flight of the Phoenix"?

Because on his Golden Globe nomination ballot, they left out the umlaut(those two little dots) above the letter 'u' in his last name.

Hardy was never happy when people did that, ya know.

(...I kid...I kid) ;)

Btw, ever seen him in THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY (1957) ? It's a terrific film made by those superfluous-u users over there, the Brits that is, and speaking of 'u's, and Hardy is great in the role as a captured Luftwaffe POW who after many tries, escapes his British and then later Canadian confines, and ultimately makes his way back to where they spell words with that umlaut thingy.

(...OH, and btw again...welcome to the boards, jc)
