Nancy Pelosi is often treated as a far-left cartoon character, but she is a wiley operative, long skilled in the art of backroom political pressure and dealmaking. Her speech last night was balanced and focused on results. I think many may be surprised by her strategic acumen.

Yawn...female protestors and activists of the 1960s make any contemporary whiners of today resemble the ineffectual infants they are... ;)

When you consider the men that we had in public life in those days - - like John Kennedy, Malcolm X, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King-- I guess you could say the same thing about the men that we have today ; except they're not even adequately endowed  with basic intellectual or astute political abilities.

The main thing to remember here is that women are actually getting political power. They didn't really have that much of it in the 60s. Gloria Steinem hadn't even started Ms magazine at that point.

You can yell and protest all you want but real power is political and Financial power.

These are the things that women never had in the 60s,  but more and more are getting them now and more and more are getting with it NOW!

Lucy McBath, who became a gun control advocate after her son was shot to death by a white man complaining about loud music, wins House race. Incumbent Karen Handel just conceded. #GA06

This was a racist hate crime that the mother had to endure.

And her response was to get political power to help make America a little less racist and a little more safer for children of color.

I think you didn't read the article. This woman's son was murdered because he was a black child. When people are being lynched, we're going to single those people out first and talk about it.

The United States has a history of lynching black men. I know you studied that in School and that's why we emphasize .

it. People talk about black lives matter because so many black men are being murdered by the police.

If you don't think that we have a problem in this country with the lynching of black men and with police violence against black men, then would you willingly trade places with a black man at this time and place in the society?

Hate Crimes are a reality in the United States and trump is just encouraging white supremacist hate with his behavior and rhetoric.

A hate crime is when people are targeted because of their race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.

I think you understand that because I do believe that you're not entirely unaware of the reality of racism and  igotry in America, none of those negativities whatever directly affect you personally.

Just for one moment imagine that you are a black person in America-- and that you were one of those two black people at that Kentucky Supermarket who were targeted by a white shooter just because they were black.

If that could happen to you you would have a different attitude about the whole issue.

You need to read her story. Also you need to know more about stories like the junior high school student in the Detroit suburban area who was nearly murdered by a white man, just because he knocked at the door to ask for directions to his school.

Several years ago in the same area a young black woman was murdered by white man because she knocked on the door to ask for help after an automobile accident.

These events  have unfortunately gone on far too long and they need to stop.

Lucy McBath's son was murdered because he was in a car with his black high school friends and they were playing loud music. A white man coming from the convenience store where they were parked was offended and shot him in Cold Blood. After that the man went back to his room and continued his life as if nothing had happened. He didn't even stop to help or wait for the police .Today that same white man is serving a life sentence for murder.

Lucy could have been devastated and completely immobilized by the cold blooded murder of her teenage son, but instead of that she decided to go to Congress and make life a little better for children of color who are singled out for hate crimes.

I think it’s funny people are still debating the definition of a “wave.” Why do we get so hung up on labels? Democrats won big. Republicans lost big at every level but the one where only a third of the seats were in play. All the pols know it. Look at the behavior on both sides.

Kansas Governor Elect to reinstate Executive Order barring sexual orientation / gender identity discrimination against state employees.

Yes,  Kansas is a Republican state. Only 25% of the registered voters are Democrats.

Democratic State Senator Laura Kelly overwhelmingly smashed trump candidate Secretary of State Kris Kobach. trump came to Kansas to rally for Kris, but it didn't do any good.

Laura Kelly will be the 3rd woman to be a Kansas Governor --

of course the other two were Democrats as well. LOL

This is a great example of the Trump effect.   Of course you know what goes on in Kansas much more than others here,  but I don't see the Dems making such gains in such a 'red' state if the President was anyone other than Trump.

Hopefully Kelly can restore the Kansas public education system after it was gutted by the former Governor.

I think we have to give Sam Brownback and the Koch brothers a lot of credit on this one.

Another way of putting this: It is easily the highest midterm turnout since the beginning of universal suffrage.

One thing that disturbs me is the way right-wing Republicans demonize people, and sometimes that demonization is "bought" by others. Hillary was one such target; George Soros is another. Democrats aren't nasty (or crafty) enough to follow suit, e.g. to demonize the likes of the Koch Brothers.

Nancy Pelosi has been another target of the right wing. Some of the Democratic House Members (even those in the Party's left wing) who talk of trying to replace her have bought into the right-wing harangues about Pelosi. Like Trump, the Republicans particularly like to demonize progressive women. Democrats need to fight back.

Pelosi has been an excellent, strong leader; hopefully the Democrats will elect her as Speaker again.

Democrats had a good midterm showing on Election Night. But it's been even better for them in the days since then.

Dems appear on their way to picking up close to 40 House seats.

If Sinema wins and Nelson loses, the GOP Senate gain would be R+2 -- when there were 10 Dem incumbents running in states Trump won.

And national pop vote is approaching D+7pts -- similar to '94, '06 and '10
