Gershwin fan Posted October 10, 2018 Haven't seen Sobibor but will probably try to look for that one and a few others. Was hoping they would submit Decision: Liquidation because that one was cool but of course, action movies never win anyways.

I must ask, who goes to these films anyways??? They are smut, and worse they are boring smut. I run across them when I am flipping through the premium channels, and I can hardly get through the first fifteen minutes of any of them. Does this person who plays Anastasia think that acting consists solely of biting her lip and wincing in a sexy manner? I realize that 75% of all box office comes from outside the US these days, so maybe these films are big in third world countries because they get to see and laugh at the "crazy rich Americans". The audience probably is comprised of the same readership that made E.L. James' 2011 novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" a worldwide best seller. Plus the spouses and/or significant others they drag with them to theaters.
jakeem Posted October 12, 2018 Bob Strauss @bscritic Conflicted on #FirstManMovie. I admired director #DamienChazelle's commitment to tight, handheld style and #RyanGosling's to underplaying and squelching emotion. Works great in the flight sequences, but a little more variety would feel less oppressive. Do try to see it in IMAX.
jakeem Posted October 12, 2018 Bob Strauss @bscritic #BadTimesAtTheElRoyale is well-acted, has some nice Tarantinoish ideas and shocking violence, ultimately doesn't add up to much. Nice showcase for #JeffBridges and the very talented #CynthiaErivo.
jakeem Posted October 12, 2018 Bob Strauss @bscritic #MeganGriffiths' #Sadie is a terrific bit of trailer park neo-neorealism. #MelanieLynskey, #JohnGallagherJr. & young #SophiaMitriSchloss expertly play out a tale of loneliness, longing and abandonment, and the devious strategies immature moralism can inspire. jakeem Posted October 13, 2018 Bob Strauss @bscritic #RupertEverett stars in a role he was born to play, #OscarWilde, & also wrote & directed obvious labor of love #TheHappyPrince. It's about the disgraced, destitute playwright's post-prison years, shot in a perpetual twilight of desire & injustice. Moving, indulgent, Wildean.
