‘Nobody Is Going to Believe You’

The Bohemian Rhapsody director Bryan Singer has been trailed by accusations of sexual misconduct for 20 years. Here, his alleged victims tell their stories.

"............Singer, who is now 53, has been trailed by allegations of sexual misconduct. These allegations were so well known that 4,000 students, faculty members, and alumni at the University of Southern California had signed a petition asking the school to take Singer’s name off one of its programs, the Bryan Singer Division of Cinema and Media Studies—which the school did immediately after Sanchez-Guzman filed his suit. As one prominent actor told us, “After the Harvey Weinstein news came out, everyone thought Bryan Singer would be next.”

We spent 12 months investigating various lawsuits and allegations against Singer. In total, we spoke with more than 50 sources, including four men who have never before told their stories to reporters......

The portrait of Singer that emerges is of a troubled man who surrounded himself with vulnerable teenage boys, many of them estranged from their families. Their accounts suggest that Singer didn’t act alone; he was aided by friends and associates who brought him young men. And he was abetted, in a less direct way, by an industry in which a record of producing hits confers immense power ...........

the company’s Encino mansion became a party house where teenage boys were allegedly given alcohol and drugs, encouraged to have sex with older men, and in some cases raped. ........

Hollywood director Bryan Singer's statements from last fall and yesterday

"really fail to address very detailed accusations made by the men in this story," @TheAtlantic contributor Alex French tells @JudyWoodruff.

"They just don't hold water."

Industry Reactions to the Bryan Singer Allegations Are a Lesson in Willful Ignorance-

Citing the director’s ability to generate money, the producer of Red Sonja defended the choice to keep him at the helm of the upcoming film.

..... Lerner’s defense of his director is even more insidious at its edges: Lerner is suggesting, with his emphasis on the gross of Bohemian Rhapsody, that there is a causal connection between a filmmaker’s “vision and acumen”—and relatedly, his ability to bring massive profits to the companies that make use of those talents—and the filmmaker’s moral behavior. It’s an assumption that lingers in Hollywood, in spite of the layered revelations of #MeToo: .......

When money is allowed to serve as a kind of character witness—the over $800 million Bohemian Rhapsody has grossed—the allowance summons one of the shiniest lies that American culture has devised: That there is a meaningful connection between money and moral attainment. That the ability to accumulate wealth—for oneself, or on behalf of a corporation—is its own form of exoneration. .........

@Gershwin fan who is that? Better yet, why did you link it?

I don't know. I saw a few videos on Carl Jung and went to the channel that uploaded it and this video was there. I think she raises a few good points. lol Men shouldn't be doing this to women at all but women need to get out there and come forward with their stories instead of keeping them hidden for years until there is no physical evidence left.

DOJ opens investigation into handling of Jeffrey Epstein sex offender case

"OPR has now opened an investigation into allegations that Department attorneys may have committed professional misconduct in the manner in which the Epstein matter was resolved,” the DOJ wrote.

Sasse pressed the DOJ following a bombshell Miami Herald report in November that said Epstein, a Palm Beach millionaire, was offered a plea deal sentencing him to 13 months after he was accused of running a sex ring that trafficked teenage girls.

In the deal, Epstein, who has been linked to President Trump and former President Clinton, pleaded guilty to two prostitution charges, while he and “any potential co-conspirators’’ were given immunity from further prosecution.....

Abuse of Faith

20 years, 700 victims: Southern Baptist sexual abuse spreads as leaders resist reforms

",,,......It's not just a recent problem: In all, since 1998, roughly 380 Southern Baptist church leaders and volunteers have faced allegations of sexual misconduct, the newspapers found. That includes those who were convicted, credibly accused and successfully sued, and those who confessed or resigned. More of them worked in Texas than in any other state.

They left behind more than 700 victims, many of them shunned by their churches, left to themselves to rebuild their lives. Some were urged to forgive their abusers or to get abortions.

About 220 offenders have been convicted or took plea deals, and dozens of cases are pending. They were pastors. Ministers. Youth pastors. Sunday school teachers. Deacons. Church volunteers........

"It's a perfect profession for a con artist, because all he has to do is talk a good talk and convince people that he's been called by God, and bingo, he gets to be a Southern Baptist minister," said Brown, who lives in Colorado. "Then he can infiltrate the entirety of the SBC, move from church to church, from state to state, go to bigger churches and more prominent churches where he has more influence and power, and it all starts in some small church. ..........

the newspapers found at least 10 SBC churches that welcomed pastors, ministers and volunteers since 1998 who had previously faced charges of sexual misconduct. In some cases, they were registered sex offenders. .............

After Ryan Adams allegations, will music industry finally face a #MeToo reckoning?

“I don’t know why it took so long to get here, but I think more is very likely to come out," one veteran music journalist said.

..........."These record labels are finally waking up to the idea that it's not good business to be in proverbial bed with alleged serial abusers and sexual harassers," said Lola Ogunnaike, a culture critic and People TV anchor. "I also think the industry, unfortunately, is driven by the bottom line and the M-word: money, not morality."

Sony Music, a leading recording company, cut ties with R. Kelly after a six-part Lifetime documentary series brought renewed attention to his alleged pattern of sexual, emotional and physical abuse. Lady Gaga and Chance the Rapper apologized for collaborating with him. The singer has vehemently denied the allegations.

The release of Adams’ new album was reportedly canceled after The New York Times reported that seven women, including his ex-wife Mandy Moore, have accused him of emotional and verbal abuse that was in some cases tied to sexual overtures.....

The history of American popular music is littered with examples of "male artists preying on women and young girls," Ogunnaike said, referring to a dynamic that was often glamorized in lyrics during rock's pinnacle in the 1960s and 1970s.

The longstanding gender inequities of the music industry also “help support and hide bad behavior,”......

Thompson also expressed concern for the issues that Skydance had created for its employees by placing an alleged abuser into a position of power.

Thompson’s decision to step away joins a loud chorus of film and animation industry workers who’ve reacted with strident disbelief and anger to Lasseter’s return into the spotlight.........

"The reality is there are shows that are still shooting now where actors are leaving to go home and are visibly, emotionally, and physically shaken by what they’ve been asked to do,” says Chelsea Pace, a co-founder of Theatrical Intimacy Education.

#MeToo Is Changing How Sex Is Simulated on Set

....In the film, we hear from several professionals whose careers are dedicated to staging sex scenes for film, television, and theater. These “intimacy choreographers” ensure that actors are respected throughout the process of choreographing simulated sex........

Claire Warden, an intimacy choreographer, feels a great responsibility to uphold standards of consent on every set, despite the fact that only 20 intimacy directors are currently working in Hollywood. “I feel that every room I’m not in is the potential for an actor to be hurt,”
