Since we are now in 2018, I thought about my favorite films of each year ending in "8". I couldn't think of one for 1918 but you can add that if you like.

1928:

1938:

1948:

1958:

1968:

1978:

1988:

1998:

2008:

here's mine

1928: The Crowd

1938: Bringing Up Baby

1948: The Naked City

1958: Vertigo

1968: Rosemary's Baby

1978: Halloween

1988: Imagine John Lennon

1998: The Personals

2008: Departures

My 1998 choice is a Taiwanese film about a professional female who goes to a dating service to find a mate, it's very hard to find but worth looking into.

The Passion of Joan of Arc

Bringing Up Baby

The Red Shoes (or maybe I Remember Mama?)

Mind says Vertigo. Funny bone says Auntie Mame. ( Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is close behind)

Rachel, Rachel

Autumn Sonata (although I must say that shutoo's pick is a total delight)

Running on Empty (one of my favorite post-classic-era [up through and including 1979] years though, lot of riches around here)

Hmmm. Shakespeare in Love right now. Also firmly in competition here: Saving Private Ryan, Rushmore, Pleasantville

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (loved Frost/Nixon too)

1948: Bicycle Thieves

1958: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

1968: 2001: A Space Odyssey

1978: Grease (Sure it's not glamorous, but it makes for an enjoyable evening)

1988: Rain Man

1998: The Truman Show

2008: Doubt

2018: A bit early to say right now. but I'll predict the remake of Mary Poppins starring Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Lin-Manuel Miranda

I was really close to including Beetlejuice for my 1988 choice as I really enjoy it, but decided to go with something else instead. I love the "Day-O" dinner scene, it cracks me up every time.
