Favorite John D.........

1 post in this topic

Don't expect this to go anywhere.  But I will point out that in the course of looking up some info for another forum, I discovered that prolifc '50's and '60's songwriter JOHN D. LOUDERMILK  died Sept.2016 with little to no fanfare. :(

Know it or not, I'm willing to bet most of you here at a certain age has at least ONE Loudermilk  among your favorites.  He wrote across many genres and through many "trends".  From country tunes like "Abeline" to "Then You Can Tell Me Good-Bye".

Just browse through his website and notice how many tunes he wrote and the hundreds of different people from various countries and cultures that recorded them.  AND that his seminal tune, "Tobacco Road" itself was covered nerly 200 times by as many artists, and you have one of America's most prolific and in many ways underappreciated tunesmiths.

Two of my favorites......  He even released his own recordings of several of his tunes....

And the original 1960 recording......
