That is funny,  but it was my understanding they served with honor and were willing to take risks (well as much as the next guy, which wasn't much for anyone considering Britain wasn't at war).

I only got 'involved' in this topic after I saw that CNN was devoting hours upon hours to them, when to me this is a 15 second news story.    (but of course CNN beats topics to death, like a cat,  9 times over!).

I don't recall the details, but one of them was near an actual battlefield, but he wasn't

there very long. It's just a PR scam to make the poor British suckers think these

parasites actually do something worthwhile. English royal weddings have always been

popular with the American media. They go all out. Thank goodness the time difference

means one doesn't have to see them unless one wants to get up at the crack of

dawn.

Yeah, and the cost to keep these almost wax figures is ridiculous.

And the hats the old bag wears, yikes!

Two French pilots, José Benavente and Benoit Micolon, who months earlier pooled their life savings to buy a single-engine plane, are on a mission to save lives by spotting rickety, overcrowded migrant vessels before it’s too late.

They named their aircraft “Colibri” — "Hummingbird" — after a Native American legend in which a hummingbird tries to stop a forest fire by picking up water and putting it, drop by drop, onto the burning trees.

More than 600 migrants have died this year trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea. Aid groups and authorities rely on migrants or traffickers using sat phones to alert them — or third parties such as nearby merchant ships — with a distress signal.  https://nbcnews.to/2x0nSNS

New Zizek article on the Royal Wedding and its positive effect on race relations.

https://www.rt.com/op-ed/428134-royal-wedding-uk-zizek/

Slavoj Žižek: Britain’s royal wedding had an emancipatory subtext

Progressives who are inclined to lash out at the monarchy and have fired their vitriol at the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex may be missing the point.

Leftist critics were right about Britain’s recent royal wedding, but for the wrong reason. They conceded how Meghan Markle is a sympathetic figure - a feminist and a mixed-race woman - but they opposed the form of monarchy that was celebrated (if we ignore a few complaints about taxpayers’ money being spent).

What these critics failed to perceive is the emancipatory dimension of this form itself, of the big public ritual which socially links a community. To explain this point, we should go back to Novalis, the key figure of German Romanticism, who is usually perceived as a representative of the conservative turn of Romanticism, but his position is much more paradoxical.

Monarchy is the highest form of republic, “no king can exist without a republic and no republic without a king”.

Or, to quote Nathan Ross’s resume: “the true measure of a Republic consists of the lived relation of the citizens to the idea of the whole in which they live. The unity that a law creates is merely coercive. /…/ The unifying factor must be a sensual one, a comprehensive human embodiment of the morals that make a common identity possible. For Novalis, the best such mediating factor for the idea of the republic is a monarch. /…/ While the institution might satisfy our intellect, it leaves our imagination cold. A living, breathing human being /…/ provides us with a symbol that we can more intuitively embrace as standing in relation to our own existence. /…/ The concepts of the Republic and monarch are not only reconcilable, but presuppose one another.”

Judge blocks FEMA from ending housing aid to Puerto Ricans http://nbcchi.com/EqW0pY4

"U.S. District Judge Leo T. Sorokin of Massachusetts ordered that the Federal Emergency Management Agency cannot end its Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) program

until at least midnight Tuesday, meaning those depending on the aid to pay for hotel and motel rooms should be able to stay at least until check-out time Wednesday, according to online court records.

The national civil-rights group that filed a lawsuit Saturday seeking the restraining order said the end of the FEMA assistance would lead to Puerto Rican evacuees being evicted. The temporary restraining order affects around 1,744 people, an attorney involved in the suit said. The FEMA transitional assistance was to end Saturday....."

-good news, temporarily

Re the above:  Mr. Reggie from Mr. Reggie's Lawn Service was "mowing while black" which some neighbor thought was a crime, just like Permit Patty calling the cops on a little black girl selling bottled water across the street from a ballpark on a hot day.  Hooray for child entrepreneurs and shame on those adults suffering from Severe White Privilege Syndrome.

Here's an idea for cash-strapped municipalities:  start charging a fine for these clowns who call the 911 emergency line over bull****.

Norwegian crew member who went overboard found alive 22 hours later by Carnival ship

A Norwegian Cruise Line crew member who went overboard near Cuba Saturday was found 22 hours later by a Carnival Cruise Line ship.

“This is nothing short of miraculous,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Kudos to the Carnival Glory team for this amazing effort to rescue a fellow seafarer.”

Around 3:20 Saturday, the Norwegian Getaway was 28 miles northwest of Pinar del Rio when the ship told the U.S. Coast Guard that a 33-year-old crew member had been seen going overboard. An HC-144 Ocean Sentry plane out of Miami began searching about 10 minutes later, the Coast Guard said.

BREAKING: Thai provincial governor says all 12 boys and their coach found alive in cave where they went missing over a week ago.

Thailand cave rescue: Rescuers weigh boys' escape options

Rescuers are considering how best to bring to safety a group of boys trapped in a flooded cave network in northern Thailand.

The 12 boys and their football coach were discovered alive on Monday.

Divers reached them nine days after they entered the caves and became trapped by rising waters caused by heavy rainfall.

More heavy rain could see water levels rise and threaten the air pocket where the group has taken refuge.

Attempts are being made to reduce the risk of this by pumping water from the underground system.

Professional divers are battling the difficult conditions to bring food and medicines to them, highlighting the complicated nature of any rescue.

A phone line is being installed so the boys can talk to their families.

Earlier, the Thai military said the boys would need to learn to dive - or wait months for flooding to recede before they could get out of the caves.

Food would need to be sent in for the next four months if the scuba-diving option was ruled out, the military added.

Thank heavens they're white or somebody would've called 911 on them.  ?

On a more serious note, good for them.

In CA they would still be arrested because they have to have a permit.   Note that here in CA to wash someone's hair one has to complete 1,500 hours of training in order to get the necessary permit \ licence.    Now the State legislators just passed a bill getting rid of this (with only 2 voting no),  but there is a separate committee that has to approve all permit \ licence changes and they voted it down (14 to 3).

Those on the committee only exist (yea, get paid),  to keep these type of bogus requirements going and they are bribed by the so called training-schools to ensure these insane requirements are maintained.

In addition the State AG said he was going to crack down on those that performed services without a permit \ licence,  but then pressure was put on him NOT to do so since many doing that are illegal immigrants.

Just more examples of CA liberal regulatory madness (and I'm a liberal when it comes to social issues but not on this type of crap).

Teen's hot dog stand serves up food, inspiration with Minneapolis inspectors' blessing

Jaequan Faulkner earned a permit from Mpls. for his entrepreneurial venture.

"....The business started in 2016 when Faulkner saw an old hot dog grill at his uncle’s house. After two years of starts and stops, Faulkner stuck with it this summer.

Then he hit a snag: The Minneapolis Health Department called. Someone had complained to the city about the hot dog stand.

But instead of shutting Faulkner down, the Health Department decided to help him meet its standards.......

Next year, Faulkner hopes to put 25 cents from every hot dog sale toward raising awareness about youth suicide and depression, something he’s struggled with personally.

Faulkner said working at the hot dog stand has helped build his confidence. On Monday, cars honked as they passed, hands waving out windows.

That positivity, and the opportunity to spread it, is why Faulkner does this.

“You like the money?” one person asked Monday as Faulkner stared down a row of TV cameras.

Thirteen-year-old hot dog entrepreneur Jaequan Faulkner served up a hot dog meals to Yvonne Ross and her son Drameris Ross, 7, at his hot dog stand, M

“No,” Faulkner answered curtly. “It’s not about the money. It’s just something I enjoy doing."
