Who is the coolest captain in the movies?

28 posts in this topic

Today's TCM daytime schedule is full of captains. So who do you think is the coolest captain ever in the movies? (Including captains not on the schedule for today).

The list from today's schedule:

Captain Applejack

Captain Thunder

Captain Hurricane

Captain Blood

Captain Peabody ( The Captain is a Lady )

Captain Boycott

Captain Pirate

Captain Sinbad

Who gets your vote? :D

I have been imagining some TCM programmer grabbing all the "Begins With CAPTAIN" titles, and working his way thru them. I've only seen CAPTAIN BLOOD which is a favorite film, but I've been enjoying the day's listing even when some were weaker offerings than others.

Thanks, TCM.

(And I just wish there were plenty o' clips of Bob Keeshan to fill in the spare moments...)

No, it survives. TCM has shown it in the past.

I loved "Captain Boycott" that I saw this morning. Another surprise British movie.

Hey, who was the Jackie Miller look alike in Captain Sinbad? I only saw a little bit of the last hour, but She was a dead ringer for the beloved 50's figure model.

I'd have thought many would think of Captain Kangaroo, when going back to their childhood. ;)

My favorite captain is easy:

HOOK!

Either Dustin Hoffman in "hook" or Hans Conried in Disney's "Peter Pan"---you decide---but the character is, to me, the best captain ever!

I was going to put Tom Tully from the Caine Mutiny but when I looked it up he played a commander. But I think I'll put Tom Tully (always great) anyway as Captain McClung in The Wackiest Ship in the Army.

I was thinking only in terms of movies. Of course, CK was my favorite on the small screen.

"Captain Blood" - He and the movie have EVERYTHING! And....the great swordsman, Basil

Rathbone.

Lonesome.....That's a goodie! Another in the "crazy captain" category is Captain Queeg

(my beloved Bogie) in "The Caine Mutiny". Yum--strawberries ;)
