Best Musical of All Time

52 posts in this topic

What keeps me from naming certain musicals like "Chicago" on a list of the best is the very disturbing introduction showing violent sex leading up to the murder. It was very graphic and could have been done without all the gorey details. After all the whole plot does revolve around the murder but did we have to see it so vividly? I mean do we have to see Gene Kelly screwing Debbie Reynolds in the empty sound stage to enhance Singing In The Rain? Get my point?

The violence in "Chicago" was not that graphic I mean this was not "Saw the Musical"! But the film is suppose to be a dark gritty sexy and for this story it worked. Director Marshall tried the same tricks for "Nine" and failed.
