Noirs & Gangster movies coming up on FMC

202 posts in this topic

I finally saw FALLEN ANGEL this morning. Not great, but gets a 10 out of 10 on the noir characteristcs meter. Was David Raksin in the cast? I thought he was only a composer. ("Laura", etc.)

No, he probably isn't in the cast, and I should be more careful next time. For some reason, the folks who make the FMC schedule have a habit of including directors and composers in the cast list. I try to catch as many as I can, but sometimes one or two still slip by.

VICKI isn't bad at all, even if you're familiar with the original, I WAKE UP SCREAMING. Richard Boone is quite acceptable in the Laird Cregar role and Aaron Spelling is good enough in the Elisha Cook part that one wishes he stayed with acting rather than going into production. No doubt, with that puss he would have been typecast however.

The big problem is Elliott Reid in the Victor Mature role. Boone calls him "pretty boy" but he doesn't even have that much going for him and certainly not Mature's virility.

"Where the Sidewalk Ends"

This is a great film and a must watch in my view, I missed several minutes when it ran once on FMC over the summer, I purchased the film on DVD and it is another film that tops my list...

I'm going to try to look into that, but it may not be a quick thing. The FMC website is great for looking up the day's schedule and maybe a few days ahead.

But if you're trying to use the search function to figure out if a movie is coming up, well, it doesn't seem to work for some reason.

Did you get around to it? :D

Just thought I'd mention, someone mentioned in the other thread that the DVD of it is supposed to have a _very_ good audio commentary.

I caught VICKI this morning. I hadn't read your description, and didn't realize that it was a remake of I WAKE UP SCREAMING until the very end. Boone was in the Laird Cregar role as the sicko cop. I preferred the original.
