Elizabeth Warren Pres. Candidacy.....

75 posts in this topic

There’s a Reason Many Voters Have Negative Views of Warren—But the Press Won’t Tell You Why

The media have focused on her comparatively low approval ratings—but not the misogyny that drives them.

".....Mentioning the right’s attacks on Warren plus her low approval ratings while citing her “very liberal record” and the controversy surrounding her alleged Native American heritage implies a causal relationship between these facts. Warren is a lefty who has made controversial ancestral claims. Ergo, Republicans attack her, and many Americans don’t like her very much.

But that equation is misleading. The better explanation for why Warren attracts disproportionate conservative criticism, and has disproportionately high disapproval ratings, has nothing to do with her progressive economic views or her dalliance with DNA testing. It’s that she’s a woman...

Warren’s relatively low numbers appear driven by her unpopularity among men. When the University of Massachusetts asked state residents whom they support in the 2020 Democratic primary, Warren tied with Biden among women. Among men, she trailed him by 16 points. ............

What all this ignores is the harsh truth that when women politicians—especially women politicians who embrace a feminist agenda—overtly seek power, many American men, and some American women, react with “moral outrage.” They may not express that outrage in explicitly gendered terms, just as they may not express their anxiety about a black candidate in explicitly racial terms. They may instead cite DNA testing or hidden emails or San Francisco’s cultural liberalism. Or they may simply say they find the candidate’s mannerisms off-putting.

The media’s role is to dig deeper: to interpret these specific discomforts in light of the deeper discomfort that Americans again and again express with ambitious women.....

Journalists shouldn’t ignore electability. Elizabeth Warren’s comparatively low approval ratings are a legitimate news story. But the bigger story is that Americans still judge women politicians far more harshly than they judge their male competitors. Unless journalists name that unfairness, they risk perpetuating it. "

IMO a lot of affluent liberals who hate Bernie & Warren hate them because Bernie/Warren basically reject the idea that we can just go back to the pre-Trump corporate status quo

— a status quo that was great for affluent folks, and a crushing dystopia for millions of other people.

Elizabeth Warren is all spectacle and no content. She made a name for herself with viral videos wagging her finger at bankers who remained rich and consequence-free while never actually taking a stand on controversial issues when it mattered. She puts on a show and plays it safe.

Perfectly stated. She's a careerist; nothing more. Just like most of the other phonies in the Democrat Party.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren says Trump is what happens when 'corruption invades a system'

The Massachusetts lawmaker called the president an "accelerant" to a corrupt system in her interview on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show."

"Donald Trump is an accelerant," Warren said. "He takes a problem that has just been growing and growing and growing and he just sets it off. And makes it worse than it ever was."

Warren also criticized Trump for his 2017 tax cut, claiming that it gives more than a trillion dollars to billionaires and corporations. Warren called the cuts a "payoff" to donors, claiming the president is obvious in his attempts to create legislation that benefits the wealthy.

“He takes this government, and he’s been pretty damn open about it, and he says this government works for the rich," Warren said.

Thanks.  As usualy Warren has a "plan" without substance or reality.  She said we need to pull troops out of Syria and Afghanistan in coordination with our allies and basically need to insure things don't get worse.  DUH!!!  The only way you can keep it from getting worse is to keep troops there and prop up the government of Afghanistan and prevent ISIS from reemerging in Syria, as it will if we leave.

The actual alternative is to do what we did in Vietnam.  Declare a victory and bring everybody home.  Then be prepared to evacuate all Americans and their supporters when it turns to crap.

She also seems to ignore the allies we already have in the Middle East.

Clueless.

I have a different take on Senator Warren. I have my doubts about her because she takes herself too seriously. The DNA test business was a dumb stunt. There was nothing corrupt about it, but it did make her look stupid. If she could laugh at herself about it publicly, show that she can deal with a gaffe with humor, I think people might trust her more. Instead she just gets more shrill every time it is brought up. It is like the kid on the playground who threw a fit every time that you messed with them. It just made you want to mess with them more.

She doesn't hate the rich. That's all pretend.

She just says stuff that stupid Democrats want to hear so they'll be stupid enough to vote for her.

I think the reason Warren rates so low is because she is an extreme left wing liberal who really does not understand much about how to get things done.  Her knowledge base about government is thin.

It has NOTHING to do with her being a woman.

I think the reason she rates so low is because she tried to pass herself off as a minority and take advantage of something she had no right to do.

And she only made a bad mistake look worse by taking that DNA test and making it public.

She had plenty of time to think about her initial mistake, yet the second mistake shows that her judgment is poor and her political and/or public relations ability is nonexistent.

So identity politics does matter,  especially to Dems.     Since I don't play the identity politics game,  I don't blame Warren for trying to pass herself off as not being 100% 'white'.    She had to since that matter sooooo much to soooo many Dems and especially the so called progressives.

And white privilege in the United States is all about phenotype, upfront public identification. You know what I mean.

imo she missed a golden opportunity in 2016 to have challenged Hillary Clinton and she just let it pass.

she missed her chance.

Elizabeth Warren's past is catching up with her just like a number of other politicians this week.

On Tuesday the Washington Post reported that Senator Warren clearly stated her race as being American Indian on her Texas bar registration card in 1986.

This is a clear indication that she was utilizing a minority status to further her professional career,

when she had no right to that status.

More apologies were  indicated and were given.

However, the whole confusion with her repeated usage of a minority status --

when she is obviously not a minority- has given not just concern about her judgment,

but also concern about her viability as a left-wing liberal Democrat.

Posing as a minority person, perhaps even stealing an opportunity from a legitimately deserving minority person,

is not something to be taken lightly in Democratic circles.

trump did say she used her imaginary native American blood just to garner scholarship money...

that's why he keeps calling her Pocahontas, princess.

Nippy, what she did was wrong. .

But trump using Pocahontas as the butt of a joke is disrespectful, not just to Native Americans but to all Americans, as this woman was a great heroine of American history.
