Is Criticizing Israel Anti-Semitic.?

Netanyahu takes a big loss for Trump's little win against 'the squad'

Analysis: The president's minor moment of triumph required real sacrifice from the Israeli leader — who delivered it.

"......Netanyahu: He had to make Israel look bad to make Trump happy. In doing so, he handed his critics around the world pallets full of rhetorical ammunition.

Netanyahu showed in stark relief that speech is limited in Israel.

He risked further deterioration of support for his country within a Democratic Party that lays claim to the vast majority of Jewish voters. And he allowed the Jewish people, survivors of some of the world's worst tyrants since the advent of monotheism, to be portrayed as frightened, either of the two congresswomen or of Trump.....

The odds that the congresswomen would have any real effect on unrest in the Middle East are, of course, slim to none. But by refusing to allow them into the country, Israel didn't just allow them to decry its policies. It gave them a higher platform from which to do so — and, in the eyes of some, the higher ground.

As Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida put it, "being blocked is what they really hoped for" in the first place.

"I disagree 100% with Reps. Tlaib & Omar on #Israel & am the author of the #AntiBDS bill we passed in the Senate," he wrote on Twitter. "But denying them into #Israel is a mistake.".....

JUST IN: Rep. Tlaib, daughter of Palestinian immigrants, says she has declined to visit her grandmother in the West Bank
after Israel granted permission; cites "oppressive" restrictions placed on her visit.

.....she had decided to cancel her visit to her grandmother in the West Bank

after Israel announced that it had granted her permission.

"I have decided that visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions stands against everything I believe in — fighting against racism, oppression & injustice," Tlaib tweeted......

When I won, it gave the Palestinian people hope that someone will finally speak the truth about the inhumane conditions.

I can't allow the State of Israel to take away that light

by humiliating me & use my love for my sity to bow down to their oppressive & racist policies.

Based on watching news this morning on CNN and MSNBC, it appears the consensus is that Trump, Netanyahu, Omar and Tlaib are all guilty.  Omar and Tlaib were invited to go on a Congressional fact-finding "tour" undere auspices of Israeli government.  This is normal for any such tour of a foreign country by US officials.  However, they both declined and instead wanted to go on one under the auspices of a Palestinian organization that supports car bombings and similar activities.

After Israel rejected the above (a dumb move on their part), Tlaib sent a letter saying she just wanted to visit granny and would not get involved in anything political.  Then all the publicity started and she changed her mind.  Another dumb move.

Apparently Omar just wants to do whatever she can to embarrass Netanyahu and Israeli government.  Which of course plays into GOP's hands and further harms Dem candidates in 2020 elections.

Linking the two together really adds to the negative impact for Dems in 2020 elections.

OP- A lesson of the Trump, Tlaib, Omar, Netanyahu affair

".....as far as the trip’s itinerary is concerned, there have been accusations that Tlaib would not be meeting with enough Israelis, and perhaps no Israeli government officials. But it’s also not hard to imagine there have also been countless congressional delegations traveling to the Holy Land over the decades that also did not meet with many or any Palestinians, government officials or otherwise. .................

.....hearing exclusively or mostly from one side of the conflict is not just conceptually wrong, it leads to skewed views and worse, bad outcomes.

The deep and nuanced understanding that is required to truly advance peace on this painful and thorny issue simply cannot be achieved without taking in equal measures of the diverse perspectives among both peoples.

We Americans should insist on equal measures of freedom, prosperity and security for both the Jewish people and the Palestinian people in the Holy Land."

The USA should stay out,  period.     Western Europe and Britain created this mess,  they need to spend the funds to fix it.

We should also provide no funding, selling of arms, or tactical support,  to either side, until there is a resolution.

The USA became involved when we became the first nation to recognize the Israeli government.  Then we started providing huge amounts of economic and military aid - and still do.  So it goes far beyond what Western Europe and Britain did before and immediately after WW II.  USA is involved.

We do not provide military funding, arms or tactical support for Palestinians.  If we stop selling to Israel, Russia and China will step in or else they will support Palestinians.

Many American Jews are appalled at Trump's assumption that their first loyalty is to Israel

and that they should reflexively support Netanyahu's systematic discrimination against and oppression of Palestinians.

===========================

Trump Accuses Most American Jews of “Disloyalty” to Israel, Deploying Anti-Semitic Trope

"...... Trump was accusing the vast majority of American Jews who vote for Democrats in election after election of being disloyal to Israel was clear in the context of his full answer to the question he was asked: Should U.S. aid to Israel be suspended following the Israeli government’s decision to prevent two Democratic congresswomen, Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, from visiting the Palestinian territories it occupies?

Trump, who pressed Israel to block the visit by the two Muslim Democrats, responded by falsely smearing Tlaib and Omar as “two people that hate Israel and hate Jewish people,” before calling any Jews who vote for their party ignorant or disloyal.

In recent months, the president has repeatedly mischaracterized as anti-Semitic the two lawmakers’ criticism of Israel’s far-right government, and their support for the Palestinian-led campaign of boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against companies that enable the occupation to continue. .......

Just one in four American Jews voted for Trump in the 2016 election, with 71 percent voting for Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee, according to exit polls.

In the 2018 midterm elections, 79 percent of American Jews voted for Democratic candidates, with just 17 percent voting for Trump’s Republican party. ...........

This reminds me of how trump "courted" the black vote. In 2016 he told black Americans that they should vote for him because after all they had nothing to lose.

But I have to admit the things that he has said about Jewish voters and black voters is a lot better than what he said about Mexican Americans.

With these kind of comments, trump makes Biden look good.

Netanyahu Hints Trump Peace Plan Will Allow Israel to Annex Key West Bank Territory

Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, hinted on Tuesday that President Donald Trump’s Mideast peace plan, set to be unveiled after next week’s Israeli election, would give him the green light

to annex the Jordan Valley, nearly a quarter of the occupied West Bank.

Palestinian and Israeli activists condemned a map of the proposed annexation presented by Netanyahu at a televised news conference, in which he argued that his close relationship with Trump would make it possible for him to extend Israel’s borders if he wins re-election.......

It should be clear now why the squad was attacked as anti-semitic by Republicans and even some Dems:   to pave the way for Bibi to move forward with more illegal moves making any US politician nervous to call him out since that would be anti-semitic by default.

Israeli Arab Parties Said They Supported Netanyahu's Rival as 'Slap in the Face to Trump'

..........Joint List leader Ayman Odeh made history by endorsing Gantz to head the next government, while Ahmad Tibi, the head of Joint List party Arab Movement for Change, said the move to oust Netanyahu was made in part for diplomatic reasons.

"Our choice is a slap in the face to Trump and his ultimate deal," Tibi said in English, the Jerusalem Post reported Sunday.

"Mr. Trump, keep your deal. The Palestinians deserve a state of their own. Do you understand this?"......

Odeh told Israeli President Reuven Rivlin during new government consultations last week that the Arab parties are "looking for the way to prevent Netanyahu from being prime minister, and that is what most of the public wants.

Therefore, our recommendation is for Gantz to form the next government." ........

Israeli elections: Arab parties back Gantz to oust Netanyahu

"..........Faced with yet another deadlock, Israel's president Reuven Rivlin has recommended the new government includes both Mr Gantz's Blue and White Alliance, and Mr Netanyahu's Likud party.

Mr Rivlin has said he will do everything he can to avoid a third general election in Israel this year....

This is a significant exercise of political power by Israel's Palestinian citizens.

President Rivlin is consulting party leaders about whom he should ask to lead the country after last week's inconclusive election results. The Arab parties put in a strong showing, becoming the third largest force in the legislature.

Their support will not give Benny Gantz and his Blue & White alliance a majority, but it will give him a boost in negotiations about who gets the first chance to form a government.

The leader of the Arab grouping, Ayman Odeh, said it wasn't endorsing Mr Gantz and his polices: but was moving to try and block Benjamin Netanyahu from securing another term,

and to send a clear message that Israel's future must include the full and equal participation of its Palestinian citizens.......
