NZ mosque attack....

New Zealand mosque attack suspect Brenton Tarrant grins in court-

Brenton Tarrant, a licensed gun owner, used five weapons to kill at least 49 Muslim worshippers, including children.

"The Australian suspect accused of shooting dead dozens of Muslim worshippers in two mosques has appeared unrepentant in court in New Zealand, staring down media members with a smirk on his face.

Brenton Tarrant, 28, appeared in a Christchurch District Court on Saturday and was charged with murder after the worst ever mass shooting in New Zealand's history, which Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern condemned as "a terrorist attack".

He was remanded without a plea until his next appearance in the South Island city's High Court on April 5.

Handcuffed, shoeless, and wearing a white prison suit, Tarrant did not speak. His court-appointed lawyer made no application for bail or name suppression.

He flashed an upside-down "OK" signal, a symbol used by white power groups across the globe.........

Man who stood up to mosque gunman probably saved lives

"When the gunman advanced toward the mosque, killing those in his path, Abdul Aziz didn’t hide. Instead, he picked up the first thing he could find, a credit card machine, and ran outside screaming “Come here!”

Aziz, 48, is being hailed as a hero for preventing more deaths during Friday prayers at the Linwood mosque in Christchurch after leading the gunman in a cat-and-mouse chase before scaring him into speeding away in his car.

But Aziz, whose four sons and dozens of others remained in the mosque while he faced off with the gunman, said he thinks it’s what anyone would have done......

Stories of the victims of the New Zealand mosque attack

An attack on a New Zealand mosque took the lives of 49 worshippers Friday and left dozens more wounded when a white supremacist opened fire and live-streamed the shootings. Here are the stories of the lives lost and those who were wounded.........

I read a news story that was linked on Yahoo's main page concerning the attack. I made the mistake of looking at the comments below it, as well. Of the 1000+ comments, most of them said some variation of "the Muslims deserved it" or "ISIS has done much worse". A sizable number also put forth that old reliable wing-nut favorite: "it was all a fake, a false-flag operation done in an attempt to make whites/Christians/westerners look bad, and/or inspire more restrictive gun laws". There were maybe 3 or 4 out of the ~thousand comments that were in any way sympathetic towards the victims.

The New Zealand shooting was inspired by the hate America is exporting. We need to deal with that reality.

We have lectured other countries that the best way to limit violent radicalism is to attack its funding. It's time to take our own advice.

What does the right wing say about the fact that an Australian white supremacist had to go to New Zealand, where guns are available, to carry out his massacre? The New Zealand PM says they are going to do something about their gun laws. It only takes one mass shooting for them to learn their lesson, for us in the USA...not so much.

Hope American Express don't capitalize on that.

For stopping a mad gunman...priceless. For everything else there's American Express.

From the RT video....This partisan madness.

You think, the insanity started November 2016.

If there was a Mars colony and such an event happened, Trump would be blamed well as Chelsea Clinton.

You Trump supporters are so damned concerned with defending him against "this partisan madness."

Why don't you show as much concern over the fact that he REFUSES to condemn white supremacist terrorism?

If NZ had been an Islamic attack on Jews or Christians or non-Muslims of any kind he would have been screaming from the White House roof how this was proof positive of a need to curtain immigration and for THE WALL. Because all this man cares about is his political agenda.

And as long as Trump refuses to condemn white supremacists he only emboldens them to more acts of violence. Look at this NZ terrorist's favourable reference to your beloved President in his manifesto. Trump's failure to take leadership on this issue is exactly why he should be criticized. He brings it on himself.

STOP YOUR MADNESS OF DEFENDING THE INDEFENSIBLE!

Horrible.

The lingering affect of this, which is what the extremists want, is for Muslims to be afraid to go into mosques and practice their religion.

Give me  a break, you know plainly well WHATEVER he says will be TWISTED! Trump has condemned the attack.

So go ahead, twist, twist, twist twist!  Sick of this HS!!!!!

The loonies has even blamed Chelsea Clinton for the attack because of her disgust for anti Semitism!

Includes last post too....

Horrible.

There has been higher death tolls in mosque by their own extremist groups i.e. the 2017 attack in Siani, Egypt. 305-309 people were killed in the attack, including 27 children, and at least 122 others wounded.  Do we hear a peep from the left....hell no.  Was that Trump's fault as well?  By the way gave his condolences and condemned the one's responsible.

(let more twisting follow)

Why can't people just discuss the human issue without making it overly political?

Is that why articles are posted in these threads, just to create another fight about politics?

The real issue here is the irony that's occurring.

Muslims are being made to fear practicing their own religion. When the irony is that Christians wouldn't stand for that. If their churches were being bombed or gunmen were shooting at them on their way to Sunday services, there would be a holy outrage!

A terrorist is a terrorist. Period.

Trump only condemns the Islamic loonies. The far right white nut cases are comprised, to him, of "some very good people."

As the man with the biggest pulpit in the world he has to do better than that. Unfortunately it is obvious by now that Trump is incapable of doing so. Is it because he is racist or, at least, for a man obsessed with his political base, knows that a lot of racists exist within it. Whatever the reason you will never hear this man use the expression ``white supremacist terrorists.``

Did anyone twist this newspaper headline, ham. You don`t think Trump, while not directly involved, of course, didnt still have an influence on this nut case.

New Zealand mosques' attack suspect praised Trump in manifesto

The Australian-born suspect who shot dead dozens of Muslim worshippers in Christchurch, New Zealand, has published a manifesto praising US President Donald Trump and Anders Breivik, the Norwegian white supremacist who murdered 77 people in Norway in 2011.

Using the tragedy of others to make political points seems unconscionable.

Most of the threads on this page are disappointing, to me. I'd like to see more discussion about human beings. Not discussion about political beings and political pawns.

The reason I opened this thread is because I have friends in New Zealand. I see this as a New Zealand issue, about violence in New Zealand. Not an issue about how the leader of a foreign country reacts to it. And then how people react to him, which is entirely predictable.

The most truly bizarre thing about all this is the gunman mentioned the YouTuber/ internet comedian "Pewdiepie" right before coming his attack.
