Poll: Trump gains among independents against Biden, Warren

President Trump is gaining among independent voters in head-to-head matchups with the Democratic presidential front-runners, according to a new IBD-TIPP poll.

Former Vice President Joe Biden leads Trump by just 1 point among independents, which is down from Biden's 18-point lead among the voting group in September.

In a head-to-head matchup with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), 49 percent of independents backed Trump, while 43 percent threw their support behind the senator in the poll, which was released on Monday.

A 4-point gap separated Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Trump, with the president receiving 48 percent support among independents and Sanders garnering 44 percent.

Warren led Trump with independents by 2 points in the September poll, while Sanders led the president by 9 points.

The new poll comes as tensions between Trump and Biden have risen on the campaign trail as the president has intensified his attacks against the former vice president, accusing Biden of efforts to pressure Ukraine to dismiss a senior prosecutor who at one point had investigated an energy company where Biden's son had served as a board member.

There is no evidence that Biden advocated for the prosecutor's removal as a means of protecting his son.

Independent voters will likely play an impactful role in the 2020 general election. Forty-three percent of voters who said they identified as independent said they voted for Trump in 2016, while 42 percent went for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, according to the Pew Research Center.

The impeachment scam isn't working, too bad for democrats.

Impeachment scam?

So tell us, MM, what is your viewpoint on Trump asking two foreign nations (Ukraine and China) to interfere in the 2020 U.S. election by investigating a political opponent of his? Does it concern you that Trump is using the power of his office to exert pressure on a nation like Ukraine (badly in need of American financial assistance) all in the name of his own political gain?

And if Barack Obama had done the same thing regarding Mitt Romney in 2012 would you feel the same way about his behaviour?

It looks like Adam Schiff doesn't believe Trump asking two foreign nations to assist in investigating a potential political opponent is an impeachable offense.   Otherwise why all the talk about obstruction?

Obstruction is only a solid impeachable offense when the obstruction was used to cover-up other, actual,  crimes.

Looks like the phone-call 'by-itself' is NOT solid evidence of an impeachable offense and thus the Dems jumped the gun.

What are you referencing? Did Schiff release some kind of statement saying that obstruction was the only thing they are investigating now? Did he say that the call(s) were no longer an issue?

Lots of the ex-cabinet members who appear on television characterize Trump's actions as "breaking the law."

I don't see where he is saying that the original issue of the calls themselves is being dismissed or has been resolved. Rather that there is an ongoing attempt at a cover-up and obstruction. I read this as "in addition to" rather than "instead of".

I agree;  'in addition'.     Hey, it was me that jumped the gun here!     I guess my overall point is that I believe the-call and the facts we know surrounding it (e.g. Rudy's prior contract),  are enough,,,  so move forward now with that.

It appears to many that the Democrats are interfering with the 2020 election by trying to impeach Trump, and this plan has backfired. Independents are moving to Trump because they see this for what it is, a scam to steal an election. Too bad, but this poll confirms it all.

The phone call only asked for these countries to comply with the attorney general's request for more information on possible corruption with the Biden's. if the Biden's did nothing wrong, they have nothing to worry about. Obama knew all about this during his administration.

Why hasn't Obama endorsed Biden for President?

Why didn't Biden run for president four years earlier?

That's why.

Because his son had just died.

Too early for Obama to endorse anyone.

He would have at least gotten sympathy if he ran. He's too old to run now.
