Warren Releases $1.5 Trillion Plan to Address ‘Environmental Racism’

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) released on Wednesday a plan to combat climate change while addressing “environmental racism,” the concept that climate change disproportionately affects minority communities.

Warren’s plan would invest $1.5 trillion in technologies and job training programs designed to address global warming. The funds will be disproportionately allocated to impoverished communities, which, Warren argues, will suffer immediate economic disruption due to climate change.

“Our crisis of environmental injustice is the result of decades of discrimination and environmental racism compounding in communities that have been overlooked for too long,” the new plan states. “It is the result of multiple choices that put corporate profits before people, while our government looked the other way. It is unacceptable, and it must change.”

The plan builds off an earlier initiative in which the presidential hopeful pledged $3 trillion over ten years to fight global warming. The new plan draws on the “Principles of Environmental Justice” agreed upon by the 1991 National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit.

The details of the plan include proposals for retraining workers in fossil fuel industries, such as coal miners and oil rig workers, for jobs considered to be more environmentally friendly. “Workers should not be forced to make an impossible choice between fossil fuel industry jobs with superior wages and benefits and green economy jobs that pay far less,” the plan states.

Warren is leading the Democratic primary field in polling, ahead of Joe Biden by a slim margin.

Warren is currently facing questions over her account of her firing from a job at a public school when she was 22. While she claimed in a recent interview with CBS that she was fired due to her pregnancy, in 2007 she said she left the job of her own volition in order to care for her baby.

********************************************

How kooky are the democrats? Now they claim the environment itself is racist. And for those who didn't think global warming was a financial scam, they want $1.5 trillion to spend on it for themselves.

Both coal and oil is black.  If one is against them, isn't that racism?

We West Virginian's love being black! :D

linking racism to the environment is nutty. apparently she believes that the lunatics in the democratic electorate far outweigh the number of rational people.

It’s not that difficult of a concept to get.  Heavy manufacturing and other industries that pollute the air and land in their immediate vicinities historically have usually been located in poor urban areas, largely minority communities.  Groups that had more economic and political clout would not abide by these dirty industries being located near their own residential areas.  Conversely, minority groups lacked this clout to prevent the dumping of these industries in their midst.

So the communities where these polluters were located adversely affected the largely minority groups in their vicinity. This continues until now, as grounds contaminated over the decades by heavy industry needs large sums of money for clean up and de-contamination.

This is not rocket science to understand!

I'm shocked that  any American would not know after all these years that so many poor white and minority neighborhoods in rural and urban  areas have become  toxic waste dumps.

I've seen more than my share of news reports and documentaries about people in these lower-class neighborhoods getting an inordinate amount of cancer because of the pollution.

It's a class issue, it's a race issue-- but I suppose some people who are not personally affected simply don't care enough to even learn about it.

It's rather obvious that some people pick up on words like "racism" and "environment" and do not have the brain power to see a connection.  I think these people are beyond being educated.  For one, they have no desire to be.

Looks like pandering to people-of-color by a person that falsely claimed they were one of them.

Wise pandering since it is likely to be fool enough people.

PS:   Warren knows that even a Dem majority Senate would never support such a 'plan'.

Spoken like a person who believes every lie and conspiracy theory uttered by Donald Trump, and nothing else.   This is why you continue to think Idiot King Trump the Last is helping you. All he does is make you feel good about your **** situation when he tells you who put you in that **** situation and that he will help you out if that **** situation while he does nothing.  Hahahaha.

You have to say trump is really a good con artist when he can get people to support him  by energizing their hatreds against others, while ignoring  the fact they're really getting  screwed down the line by him and the Republican Party.

That kind of hate is a deadly boomerang.

Isn't this latest 'plan' by Warren trying to get support from one group of people (people-of-color),  but marginalizing non-people-of-color (whites)?     In addition Warren clearly tries to divide people based on wealth: E.g. that the rich have screwed you people over thus spreading hate.

What Warren is doing is similar to what Trump did with his promise that Mexico would pay for a wall.

PS:  I don't have an issue with what Warren is doing,  since we are a very divided nation that needs to acknowledge the dislike and anger people of the various demographic groups have towards each other.
