Our Favorite Brunettes

1,846 posts in this topic

Sure it counts!

Have I told you that your list idea of a week or two ago has brought me new awareness of why I like certain actors and actresses? And here I thought it was because of their looks - no, I don't like them because they are brunettes, but because of their voices! Who knew?

Nice photos of Ms. Russell. I particularly like the fourth one from the top, as it shows how elegant she could be (and that's an adjective you normally don't associate with her).

Lovely pictures Molo. Here are a few more favorite Jane Russell photos. I love the ones where she is smiling and almost without makeup - she had such great natural beauty, even though she was usually all decked out. She had such joie de vivre:

Lovely pictures of Jane. I'm really sad she's gone. She had such great good humor. I just loved her with Mitch in their movies together. His most congenial leading lady, in my opinion.

I agree! They were really great together. She took the stinger out of Mitch, if you know what I mean - I think she just laughed when he got moody and he lightened up. Together on screen they scorched!

I agree about the teaming of Jane Russell and Mitchum. They look like they're the only ones who could handle each other. The same intensity; evenly matched. Thanxx for the Don Ameche pix. He was a cutie pie especially without the mustache.

I also agree about Russell and Mitchum. I saw the links to some of his interviews down in the noir thread. I think I have the one he did with Cavett. Also do you all remember the Private Screenings interview Robert Osborne did with the two of them together? I think Mitchum died the following year. Hopefully TCM will air that again soon.

Molo...you ol' sodbuster. How are ya? I have seen that Private Screenings with Mitchum and Russell. Mitch was so curmudgeonly and I think Jackaaaaaaaay is right about Janie just lau-

ghing it off. I have that interview on one of my tapes. I need to pull that out. The Oscars would

do well to bring out some of the ol' glamour that these two generated.

I'm sorry to hear of Jane Russell's passing.

I don't seem to be able to post pictures in General Discussions so I wanted to be sure Sean was welcome elsewhere. :P

Oh my god! I just got home and heard the news. How very very sad. The world lost the greatest friend today.

I hope I didn't have any do-overs - I was rushing to post.

I knew this was coming when I heard about her hospitalization a few weeks ago, but somehow, I thought she was in the clear because I hadn't heard anything recently. It's still shocking.

They're all gorgeous images.

I know what you mean about the surprise in spite of knowing she'd been ill. I just took it for granted she'd go on and on. For someone with health problems all her life, she did live a long time. And her family was with her. The loss is, as you say, the world's. I can't really watch them at work but tonight I'm going to sit down and look at those interviews I posted (there are many more in the series on YouTube).
