I wanna meet Irene Dunne's character in "The Awful Truth." She looks like she'd be fun to dish with and have tea with.

I never wanna meet Maj. Strasser in "Casablanca." Oh I'm sure he's very continental. But somehow, he doesn't look like a lotta laughs. He's got that Nazi thing goin' on and...

Ha ha!

I'd like to meet Scarlett O'Hara's Pa before the war.

I'd NEVER want to meet Father Barrett in The 1934 *Barrett's of Wimpole Street* - the way Charles Laughton plays him he just terrifies me. The cold just wafts off him.... and there is some really icky subtext to that character.... shiver.......

I'm going to give this one a good think and give you a list. I love characters the most of any element of a film so this will be fun. :)

Do you mind if I give you my favorite characters of all time, as opposed to really what I think are the "greatest" in any objective sense? They will be the greatest to me, but maybe not others...I just want to be sure you're okay with that.

Absolutely! Feel free to interpret this thread any way you want. I guess I should have made two threads ---- but I think we can do either/or here.

Wow, you really shame me for not having finished mine yet. I can't believe Frankie made your list three times! That's fabulous! And Dr. Mudd was pretty high, too. Excellent. I still haven't seen The Man Who Laughs, which you and Bronxie love so much. Why do you like Stella so much?

Why? I like Frank Sinatra. I believe he's Bogie-esque.

And Dr. Mudd was pretty high, too. Excellent.

I was very impressed by the character and Warner Baxter's performance.

I still haven't seen The Man Who Laughs, which you and Bronxie love so much.

It's a love story dressed in horror.

Why do you like Stella so much?

She has a powerful allure. I like that she's got a bitey tongue and that she's sexual. I also like that she's "tired of it all." I find her to be captivating.

I didn't think you liked him that much. And that's quite a compliment, comparing him to Bogart.

I'm certainly curious about it.

But aren't there lots of characters in noir like that?

Sinatra is #22 on my favorite actor list.

Stella is warm, which is rare.
