A play opened on Broadway in the mid '40s. The male lead was known for playing second banana in romantic triangle films to one of films' biggest stars, and the female lead played a key supporting role in a landmark film a few years earlier which had yielded a Best Actor Oscar winner. The film version was released 3 years later, with different male and female leads, directed by a legendary director. Title?

A particular Broadway production, which was later turned into a film, was written with Marlene Dietrich in mind for the lead. She was offered the role, but turned it down, because rewrites had so toned down the role that she thought she was no longer appropriate for it. Name of production?

I'll take American Films for 800 Alex

*This American horror film was nominated for three Academy Awards. Too bad the characters couldn't see that coming out of their TV.*

Multiple Oscar nominated western, that did win an Oscar was directed by an actor not usually thought of as a director first. Who was the actor?
