Which one did you think was better?

The 1946 one is my pick,but the 1964 version wasnt bad.(Ronald Reagans Final Film)Good cast,Lee Marvin,Angie Dickinson,John Cassavettes,Claude Akins,Clu Gulager,Norman Fell,etc

1946 by a country mile. Burt Lancaster's debut film, with Edmond O'Brien, Ava Gardner, William Conrad, Chales McGraw, Sam Levene; the cast is far , far better too.

I agree with you. The later film is good. It has a stylish look, an intensity that serves it well. But the 1946 is better. Quite a bit better.

Give up on the only person who was in both versions?

It was Virgnia Christine(Played Burts first girlfriend in #1,the blind secratary in the #2 version )
