1 post in this topic

Tokyo 1936.Happy go lucky Taro Seki(Tom Neal)returns home after completing his education in the US.He goes to owner of an American construction company run by Clancy OHara(Don Douglas)looking for a job.He meets Clancys secratary,Tama Shimamura(Margo)and they fall in love.Clancy gives Taro the job.Taros father,Reo(J Carrol Naish)a high ranking offical frowns on Tama because shes from a poor family.

Clancys wife to be,Sara Braden(Gloria Holden)is an international reporter.Clancys best friend is baseball coach,Lefty ODoyle(Robert Ryan)

Soon war breaks out in China and Taro joins the army.Sarah is also sent there to cover the war. Both are shocked by the brutality of the Japanese army.Taro does nothing.

Taro is returned to Tokyo and is angry when he finds Sarah has reported the brutality to the international press.

1941,American is in the war and Taro denounces Clancy,Sarah,Lefty, and Tama as spies.

Taro(Tom Neal)like Humphrey Bogart in Treasure Of The Sierra Madre and The Black Legion,Kent Smith in The Damned Dont Cry Kirk Doulas in Strange Love Of Martha Ivers,Al Pacino in The Godfather and Michael Moriaty in Hollocaust gives us a good character study of the good and evil in people.

Good fight scene with Robert Ryan and Japanese SGT,Mike Mazurki.

George Givot and Wolfgang Zilzer are also good as friendly enemies(One a Russian, the other a German)living in Tokyo.
