Grauman's/TCL Chinese Theater Preservation...

1 post in this topic

Here is the thread devoted to historic preservation and Grauman's Chinese Theatre/TCL Chinese Theatre. I am adding the previously posted links from the "Sue Sue II" thread concerning conservancy in the L.A. area posted by Kyle, Countess DeLave, and lzcutter. The Festival Forum seemed the most logical place to open this thread because of the opening night Gala Premieres, traditionally held on the first evening of each festival.

I have also searched the National Register of HIstoric Places and Grauman's/TCL Chinese Theatre is not listed. Please feel free to post links and historic preservation comments here.

In addition to the restoration described below, Grauman's at that time also upgraded the sound system within the theater: http://www.jblpro.com/press/Chinese_Theater/Chinese_Theater_Renovation.html

An upgrade to that sound system has been proposed as well as a new, larger screen.

Both of which could probably be done without altering the restoration.

And the Los Angeles Conservancy is a powerful non-profit in LA whose mission is to protect the architectural history of the city. The group even has a sub-committee devoted to historic theaters:
