TCM Ultimate Fan Contest

11 posts in this topic

It is absolutely exciting to see so many entries in the Fan Contest! I am new to the board (and "somewhat old" to TCM) so hello everyone.

I submitted an entry before the deadline, and a page popped up that confirmed the submission. What worries me is that my video has not appeared in the gallery yet. I have tried to contact TCM (via the email listed under the FAQ section,) but have not received a reply. I followed all guidelines carefully. I keep reloading the page in hope that my video will show up. This was such an exciting opportunity

Question: Has your submission also not shown up in the gallery? Is it just a time lag or is the current gallery collection (25 pages) the entire group? Any thoughts on what could be going on?

I am still hopeful...

Edith,

It might be worth a call to TCM in Atlanta, Georgia to make sure they have your entry.

You can probably get the number by calling information using the Georgia area code and dialing 555-1212. Let them know you need directory assistance for Atlanta.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try calling them.

If anyone else has the same problem, please let me know. Ever the optimist I still hope that there is such a huge queue of videos waiting to be posted in the gallery that TCM is overwhelmed! Yup, one can dream...

Dear Fans,

I need your help.

Last Thursday at 8:42 pm pst I submitted a :52 promo for the TCM Ultimate Fan contest..

Here is the link-the Youtube time stamp is 8:39 pm pst.

Oh wow-the message board may not accept the link?

When I submitted-I got a screen message @ 8:43 pm pst

"Thank you for your submission"-when I clicked again I got "Submissions now closed" @ 8:44 pm pst.

Any ideas?

Anyone else go through this.

I am very unhappy. Just looking for a resolve.

Thanks TCM Family!

Lizzy

Dear Babbete,

I am so sorry you had difficulty with your submission for the Ultimate Fan Contest.

Unfortunately, if you had posted your submission at 8:42 PST, the contest was closed by that time.

The contest rules state:

" 2. HOW TO ENTER:

From 10am Eastern Standard Time ("ET") on October 1, 2013 to 11:59pm ET on October 31, 2013 (the "Entry Period") "

The submissions, unfortunately, were closed at 11:59 Eastern Standard Time.

>The submissions, unfortunately, were closed at 11:59 Eastern Standard Time.

But 11:59 pm EST is 8:59 PST (three hour time difference between the two coasts), so if she uploaded her video at 8:42 PST (and received a confirmation from YouTube), then didn't come in 17 minutes under the deadline?

Oops! Sorry.

I was looking at the date of the post on the Message Boards, not the date of Babbete's submission.

No clue about the upload difficulty unless there was a problem with the youtube link.

A few contestants had claimed that they had a problem with an initial upload, but that on the subsequent upload, there was no problem.

But that doesn't explain Babbete's problem if she uploaded it before the time limit.

Sorry, Babbete

Hi guys~

I got an email from Ultimate Fan admin early Monday:

**Hello Elizabeth,**

**So sorry about the delayed response. As you can imagine we've been extremely busy here looking through all of the submissions.**

**The video you submitted on our website seems to be having some playback issues on our site.**

**But we have your YouTube link and will certainly place it under consideration when determining the winner!**

**Thanks so much! If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!**

Here is my link:

I know I am older and rather menopausal...but I can count from 8:42 pm pst to 1-2-3 landing at 11:42 est for my submission time. So the doubters might want to reconsider.I am happy. They say they have the video and it is under review...I have yet to see it in the gallery-but Youtube works too-right? Many of the submissions in the gallery come up with audio only and a black screen.

This has to be a hell of job for these guys. I just hope the producers for Ultimate Fan see my piece-it would break my heart if they don't. The thing is-I know I came in close...but I had promised myself I would do it. And then you know the saying.."wanna make Gid laugh-make plans"...

My 91 year old dad kind of had a "come to Jesus meeting" with me about it. "Baby get out there and do it-I am fine"...

I manage his care-and right now he is dealing with a second round of cancer and radiation therapy.YEP he is 91-a WWII Vet and I swera like an Eveready Bunny He is ok-radiation treatments are going nicely-BIG shout out to Santa Barbara Cancer Center staff and Shirley his rockin social worker!!

I SWEAR-This is not a pitch for "QUEEN FOR A DAY!"-Promise. I have just had a rough year-lost my Mom-(a devotee to TCM when it was still just WTBS CH 17 in ATL.) My son and I were in car accident and two jobs fell through. Just one of those years.

The TCM Film Festival is one of my favorite things I do all year. It is like "Comic Con" for Classic Film-or any kind of film geek!"

I love it to bits!

Anyhow-so I am just glad...**at least this is what they wrote-so it does look like I am in!**

Thanks for your support. This is such an amazingly epically supportive community! Last year I got an email from someone attending and they had questions-out of towner etc..and I directed her to Airbnb.com for housing and a list of eateries and such....and during the festival she followed me on twitter caught up with me..and I ended up joining her merry band of wandering classic film zombie geek land! Gotta love it!

Thanks again-Lizzy Menzies

(yep just like the guy who one the FIRST Oscar for Art Direction~ William Cameron Menzies for "Gone With The Wind"-`of CT and Aberfeldy Scotland-small world ain't it. Slange!!!!!!

Lizzie,

Really glad it all worked out! From the sounds of the email you got from TCM they definitely have your video via your YouTube link and they say that is all they need for you to be considered along with all the others.

>Many of the submissions in the gallery come up with audio only and a black screen.

Your media player software may need to be updated.

>So the doubters might want to reconsider

No one doubted your word. That was one reason why over the weekend and again last night, I suggested you call TCM directly if you didn't get a response to your post or via email.

SueSue also didn't doubt you. She misread your post and went by the date of your post not the date in your post. It was a minor mistake but I certainly didn't get the feeling that she doubted you.

Best of luck to you and all the contestants!
