I think so as well. I've never seen anyone convey a breaking heart more convincingly than she did in 'Sudden Fear'. Astonishing performance.

For me I would love for TCM to air the 1932 British comedy Service for Ladies (released in the United States as Reserved for Ladies) starring Leslie Howard & Elizabeth Allan; it's a film that's deeply underrated but one in which we could be able to really view Howard's comedic versatility before he made 1937s It's Love I'm After alongside Bette Davis. It's great that TCM showcases so many wonderful classics uncut and commercial free; although I would've loved to see 1931s Devotion with Ann Harding in the mix via the films that TCM should air, I felt that Reserved for Ladies would make the perfect suggestion for me in regards to my pick for airing plus it would be really nice to have a bright sparkling comedy become a part of a way to start off the brand new year for 2014...thank you for listening.

*WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS (1928)*

This is the one MGM Lon Chaney silent still in existence that TCM has not shown. Chaney plays a hard boiled NYC police detective, and from the reviews I've read of people who have had looks at this rare gem, he gives a strong performance in a contemporary (1928, of course) setting. The film also boasts, they say, strong NYC on-location photography.

TCM would be providing silent film buffs with a great opportunity by having a premiere of this extremely rare Chaney production.

While The City Sleeps would indeed be a great choice, but as it's apparently not even available on a bootleg DVD, let alone an authorized one, I have to wonder how TCM could obtain the rights to show it.

One never knows, Andy. After all, TCM now has John Gilbert's THE COSSACKS (1928) scheduled for broadcast in March. I NEVER thought I'd see that one come on the channel.

I will dare to suggest this as I know that TCM can not air the movie I suggested earlier:

TCM has shown many: Carry On movies and I believe most viewers would appreciate more British humour in the form of: St. Trinian movies:

The Belles of St. Trinian's (1954)

Blue Murder at St. Trinian's (1957)

The Pure Hell of St. Trinian's (1960)

The Great St. Trinian's Train Robbery (1966)

Love *Sudden Fear* I've seen it a number of times (took out copies from the library over the years) I've requested on the bds many times that it be shown. When Joan is in Gloria's closet hiding (and please no cracks, anyone, unnecessary) her eyes and the emotion of fear was one of Joan's finest acting performances on screen. Great film and should be shown if it's available.

A film that I've never seen and very much want to see on TCM is the 1949 *The Lady Gambles* - Barbara Stanwyck film, she's a compulsive gambler.

Can't find this one on youtube either. Where is it? I hope TCM can get the film and air it.

A few years ago the did a remake of St Tritian's with Gemma Arterton, Tallulah Riley, Lily Collins, Rupert Everett, (in a dual role, one in drag), and Mischa Barton in a small part. I kind of wonder what the older ones looks like?

I have The Lady Gambles on a DVD as part of a Barbara Stanwyck collection issued by Universal. It's a boxed set that also has Internes Can't Take Money (1937 / the best version of Dr. Kildare I've ever seen), The Great Man's Lady (1942), The Bride Wore Boots (1946), All I Desire (1953), and There's Always Tomorrow (1956), which has shown on TCM several times in 2013. The set runs $23.99 on Amazon.

Your mention of the 'Carry On' movies reminded me of a film I've been looking for TCM to run for a very long time. I once heard Ben mention that TCM had shown it in the past, but it must have been quite a long time ago. It was one of those 'lost' films for a very long time, and is still very difficult (and expensive) to obtain as a dvd.

It's Val Guest's 'Enemy from Space' (1957). In the UK it was known as 'Quatermass 2'.

Why the 'Carry On' association? Sid James plays dramatically in 'Enemy from Space'. I haven't seen it since childhood, but have not forgotten it. Chilling sci fi-horror.

I think TCM should show Forever and a Day from 1943. The film was a historic attempt to bolster the British War Relief effort in 1943, Forever and a Day is a drama about the inhabitants of a magnificent English home, beginning in the early 19th century. This rarely-seen gem from England spans the years from Napoleon to World War II by following the fortunes of those who lived in a London manor house. Assembled by seven directors (Rene Clair, Edmund Goulding, Cedric Hardwicke, Frank Lloyd, Victor Saville, Robert Stevenson, Herbert Wilcox) and starring over eighty American and British actors, "Forever and a Day" is one of the largest and most powerful ensemble films ever made. The all-star cast includes Gladys Cooper, Donald Crisp, Ida Lupino, Merle Oberon,

Cedric Hardwicke, Cecil Kellaway, Elsa Lanchester,

Ray Milland, Claude Raines, Charles Laughton, Reginald

Owen, Isobel Elsom, Nigel Bruce, Gene Lockhart, June

Lockhart, Una O?Connor, Ian Hunter, Buster Keaton,

Montague Love, Walter Kingsford, Edmund Gwenn,

Dame May Whitty, C. Aubrey Smith, Queenie Leonard,

Brian Aherne, Victor McLaglen, Kent Smith as Gates T.

Pomfret, Ruth Warrick as Lesley Trimble, and many

more of the well known stars of the day.

It's an RKO film so I hope you can show it sometime. I would very much love to see this film. Thanks!

The Green Goddess (1930) with George Arliss. Simply because George Arliss was the greatest actor of his day and virtually forgotten today. Also because this was the only time in the history of film where an actor competed against himself as "best actor" in the academy awards. The Green Goddess is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek film where a British hating potentate (George Arliss) plans on executing three innocent victims who crash land in his kingdom. And the last line of the film is a gem!

time to chime in again, since two particularly noteworthy pics have been mentioned.

Enemy From Space (1957, British title Quatermass II). this should be shown as part of a three movie program that includes Quatermass I and III. (The Quatermass Xperiment, and Five Million Years to Earth).

and, Don't Look Now (1973), which makes its mystic, psychic energy solution chilling.

so, there's two unseen fliks, Whistle Down the Wind (1963) and Enemy From Space that i'm eagerly waiting to see; and two not seen for a long time, The Victors (1963) and Don't Look Now. in the case of The Victors it's been almost half a century.

i like many of the suggestions made here in answer to the request for selections from board posters.

I would like to see TCM play *After Pilkington*. This is a British movie starring Bob Peck, Miranda Richardson and Barry Foster. I saw it on PBS years ago. I don't remember much about it, but it was quite good.

If you want to read a very good review about it, there is one on Amazon. Someone on Amazon is asking $199.00 for an unused VHS copy of it... Ouch!

How about Gloria Swanson's *STAGE STRUCK (1925)?* The film is notable for it's Two-Color Technicolor. It's also a forgotten classic. One of Swanson's best surviving works from her most popular period. This was fully restored some years back by George Eastman House. I would love to see it on TCM. Swanson's next and last film for Paramount *FINE MANNERS (1926)* deserves to be shown as well.

If there is one Silent that I can't understand why TCM has never aired before, it would have to be George Fitzmaurice *LILAC TIME (1928)* with Colleen Moore and Gary Cooper. . As a First National release, It's in the Warner Library so it should be easier to get them some titles are from Paramount or Fox. Of course anything with Colleen Moore would be most welcome. Especially *HER WILD OAT (1927),* since I have never seen it. But *LILAC TIME* should be of special interest to all Gary Cooper fans as well.

I'm really hoping TCM will pick up *RAMONA (1928)* with Dolores Del Rio, and Warner Baxter. It has been restored by the Library of Congress and a Blu-ray of this long lost, long unseen film, is expected in the coming months.

And what about *THE BELLE OF BROADWAY (1926)?* A long unseen Columbia Silent Starring Betty Compson, released on DVD by Sony On Demand last month. It is also being sold through Warner Archive. The film is in virtually mint condition from a perfect nitrate transfer., with a new score by Christopher Cailendo.

Incidentally, someone asked about *SON OF THE SHEIK.* TCM has aired this picture several times. They premiered a berand new transfer from David Shepard's film Preservation Associates that is far superior to the 2002 DVD release about 3 years ago. It's been shown a couple more times since then. *THE SHEIK* was also a new transfer at the same time. Beautifully tinted print. I'm much more interested in the Photoplay Productions Carl Davis scored edition of *THE EAGLE (1925)* with Valentino, Vilma Banky, and Louise Dresser. Directed by Clarence Brown. Gorgeously Restored by Photoplay from the original Camera Negative and not available on DVD in this version. Obviously another Valentino film I would like to see in a crisp new transfer from the Library of Congress is *MONSIEUR BEAUCAIRE (1924)* with Bebe Daniels, and Doris Kenyon.

A film I would like to see on TCM Underground is *WHO IS KILLING THE GREAT CHEF'S OF EUROPE?* (1978). With Jacqueline Bissett, George Segal, and Robert Morley. Still consider this to be one of the funniest films of the 1970's.

obrienmundy,

I was terribly smitten with Jacqueline Bisset as a boy. I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world, with the sexiest voice too! TCM doesn't really show much of anything of her movies to speak of either.

Well of all the movies I wish that TCM could/would show (and a number have been mentioned here), I would have to go with one that is not too well known, starring my favorite Linda Darnell, THIS IS MY LOVE (1954). I haven't seen this in many years, and doesn't seem to have even a bootleg release. It has what I feel is Darnell's best performance, and is a noirish drama with soap elements. It also has a great cast, including Faith Domergue, Dan Duryea, and Rick Jason. Stuart Heisler made mince meat of the script, apparently, but it is riveting nonetheless.

I would like to suggest also one which I believe it would be easy for TCM to acquire and air: *If I Were King* (1938).

It is Ronald Colman, Frances Dee and Basil Rathbone in a comedy-historical-romance-battle movie with overtones of the literary.

Ronald Colman is personification of a bad boy whom you must love. He does not have to try to get any girl because his simple existence is a seduction.

Basil Rathbone is perfect also in his role as befuddled genius who happens to be king.

TCM should show The Deep.

Of course instead of "TCM doesn't really show much of anything" that might be showing too much of the lovely Jackie!

*The Man Who Would Be King* with Michael Caine talking to Robert O or Ben M about the making of the film.

Speaking of Ms. Bisset, one movie that also featured a great many actors from the studio days is 'The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean' (1972).

Very entertaining movie if not taken with any serious historical expectation.
