Scarecrows ( 1988)

A mercenary group falls prey to dark forces after parachuting into an eerie cornfield.

Dir: William Wesley  Cast: Ted Vernon, Michael Simms, Richard Vidan

"Tightly paced and consistently tense, this low-budget film has slick production values (making it appear more expensive than it probably was) and only falters in some laughably overwrought performances".[

Sun., 9-9 for                       Lost & Found....

8:00 PM (ET)
B/W - 121 m

genre_NONE_expanded.gif

Synopsis: " Morrison's justly acclaimed 2016 documentary Dawson City: Frozen Time combines his gift for transforming found footage with the real-life story of Dawson City, Yukon, Canada, a community with a rich history of ups, downs and in-betweens fueled by the changing fortunes of prospectors, gold miners, transportation companies and entrepreneurs dating back to the 19th century with the Klondike Gold Rush ....

he unfolds most of his historical narrative by means of clips and texts superimposed over the images. This reinforces the quietly contemplative atmosphere of the documentary, which is further enhanced by Alex Somers's mesmerizing music score. Entertaining and informative in equal measure, Dawson City: Frozen Time is must-see viewing for anyone interested in film history, cultural history, or North American history. "

I just watched this and - don't ask me why because my full explanation would at least rate a substantial novella - I was almost in tears.

It was as if something of great emotional value to you, which was believed viciously and callously destroyed and lost forever, has been miraculously found decades or lifetimes later  - with a mere whisper of a heartbeat and a breath of life remaining - then lovingly nurtured and brought into the light to be treasured and appreciated again by all.

The preservation and historical beauty of film does that to me.

I went through this thread, and so far it looks like this has mostly been happening with the MGM animated shorts (as per IMDB).  So I went ahead and prefixed the titles of all the previous airings with "MGM Cartoons: " as TCM does - the less I have to pay attention to these shorts, the better.  That blanks the IMDB data for those in my listings, but should fix the false premieres for those in the future, a special case just for cartoon shorts.  Actually I prefer the cartoon shorts prefixed like that, as it groups them together.

If they should open up another group of cartoon shorts they might have shown in the past, then I will just do more of the same.

TCM has updated the schedule for October 22 - the premiere of the documentary "The Frankenstein Myth (2018)" has been changed to a premiere of the documentary "The Strange Life of Dr. Frankenstein (2018)".

- I'm not sure if this is the same documentary with a different title or a replacement.

- Neither of these titles are currently listed on IMDB.

- The list of premieres shown above has been updated with the new title.

I didn't see The Frankenstein Myth either.  The Strange Life Of Dr Frankenstein at least shows up on TCM's DB.

Whatever it is, it says it is from 2018.  I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

1930s and only 5 ratings on IMDB, I would be all over it.

LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW:

? Reginald LeBorg. Lon Chaney, Jr., John Carradine, Ramsay Ames, Robert Lowery, Barton MacLane, George Zucco.

Sequel to THE MUMMY'S TOMB finds seemingly unkillable Kharis and his mentor (Carradine) on the trail of a woman who is the reincarnation of Princess Ananka. Least interesting of the series, with nothing new or different to offer. Followed by THE MUMMY'S CURSE.

LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW:

? Leslie Goodwins. Lon Chaney, Jr., Peter Coe, Virginia Christine, Kay Harding, Dennis Moore, Martin Kosleck, Kurt Katch.

Kharis and the reincarnated Ananka, last seen slipping into a New England swamp, are unaccountably dug up in a Louisiana bayou, where he's soon strangling people again. Surprisingly eerie and effective, with a good performance by Christine. Silent star William Farnum has a bit role as a caretaker. Last of the series.

DirEric Rohmer CastAmanda Langlet , Arielle Dombasle , Pascal Greggory .

"... Vincent Canby described it as "effortlessly witty" and "effervescent" in his New York Times review. He concluded, "I hope that Pauline at the Beach will win new admirers for Mr. Rohmer, one of the most original and elegant film makers at work today in any country....Mr. Rohmer's works could not exist in any other form. Their particular character would float off any printed page. They combine images, language, action and cinematic narrative fluidity to create a kind of cinema that no one else has ever done before. Pauline at the Beach is another rare Rohmer treat."[
