Vikings-29 Saints-24

Is the the most agonizing finish of all time? Perhaps not, there have been plenty of them ; but it's probably the most shocking. Well, now we know, impossible finishes do occur. The word has lost its meaning.

It was certainly agonizing for the Saints and their fans. I lean a little

toward the Vikings, so I enjoyed it. What a great finish.

Another case where ESPN goes off the rail;   On Jan. 18 2017 Doug Adler was calling a tennis game that featured Venus Williams.  Williams made a great tennis 'move' and Adler said "You see Venus moving in and put the guerrilla effect on...charging (the net)".

Some viewers heard 'gorilla' instead of 'guerrilla' and the Twitter world went haywire.     ESPN asked Adler to apologize and reluctantly he did (even though there was nothing to apologize for,  he wanted to keep his job).

Note that a guerrilla move is fairly common tennis terminology used to describe really aggressive play,  like charging the yet aggressively.

Well it didn't matter;  ESPN fired him anyway.     Adler is now suing ESPN and I hope he wins.

I was going to posts this in Racism in Trump America because I believe it is related to Trump;  the default position now is that white guys are racist.

Some years ago there was a similar situation---not in the Sports world---with the word "niggardly." As a recall, it was quite obviously a legitimate usage (by consensus) but there was at least an apology in that case and perhaps more. It was a big story because it was involved with some high profile case (OJ?). This sort of things drive me nuts ; ignorance and fear rules over common sense.

Not even going to waste the time watching the Pats make one of those

fourth quarter comebacks because the other team made a bunch of

dumb moves.
