1. Jack Lemmon was the first person to win Oscars in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories. He received the 1955 Best Supporting Actor award for his comedic performance as Ensign Pulver in "Mister Roberts." He picked up the 1973 Best Actor award for his dramatic work as troubled businessman Harry Stoner in "Save the Tiger." Only five other actors have duplicated the feat: Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey and Denzel Washington.

In 1971, Helen Hayes became the first person to win Oscars in both the leading and supporting categories for acting. Other women who have done it were Ingrid Bergman, Dame Maggie Smith, Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett.
