I liked him in "The Tin Star", too, with Henry Fonda.

Yes, that's another great film. So is FEAR STRIKES OUT.

Now TopBilled I was just going to thank you for putting the Perkins films on this place, but now you've gone and done it. As a baseball fan, I just gotta say though I love Tony Perkins to death, and think he is a fabulous actor, that he really was not good as Jimmy Piersall in "FSO". Possibly because, as they used to say in my neighborhood, he threw a baseball "like a girl" and really had no athletic prowess at all. In fact, I may be wrong but didn't they even have to reverse the film so he would be pitching with the correct arm to match Piersall's throwing arm. I might be wrong about that, but check it out. Even Jimmy Piersall hated Tony in the role, and unlike Rocky Graziano who thought Paul Newman was a ringer for him, in "Somebody Up There Likes Me"and  was delusional, I gotta agree that Perkins made a bad Piersall. Now Perkins' emotional playing in the film was fine, but you wouldn't pick Boy George to play Johnny Unitas in a film so I hope you get my drift. Still want to thank you though for the fine job you do updating us all on upcoming films.

Despite the "miscasting" I think we can still agree FEAR STRIKES OUT is a great film. And Karl Malden is a splendid costar.

Yes...I guess that's how you know something is a classic. It's timeless.

Programming alert-- I just noticed CAPE FEAR was pulled from TCM's schedule. BRIGHT LEAF is now being showN as the film representing North Carolina during the 50 States in 50 Movies spotlight.

But THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER is still airing tonight. So all is not lost! I guess we can love it or hate it.

Totally agree with you on that, and Malden is always wonderful, TB! The back story of Piersall's mental issues was handled well in the film.

Yes, such a great film. One of the last ones Skelton did at MGM.
