We had a 110' tall Red Oak come down in much the same way early in April last year.  There was just the right combination of heavy rain all week long, then high winds, then wet heavy snow, to loosen the soil and push it over.  Another 45 degrees of rotation around and it would have come dangerously close to compacting part of our house.

We had some snow in Manhattan, NYC, but in general, it was the blizzard that didn't happen.

Yeah, but the weather still is terrible. It's very slippery, and it's cold and windy today. We almost made it to Spring without trauma, but not quite.

Nest few days will be in the 70's, hard to believe this is August.which is usually hot and humid.

.78 inch of rain yesterday, don't have to worry about watering for a while with these conditions. :)

Just got our first snow of the year.  There is not enough coverage to block the fallen leaves.  About 50% of what I see are leaves, and 50% is snow, and even that has begun to melt.  Not even half of the leaves have fallen yet.  It is cold though.  Glad to have power restored after losing it for a couple days earlier this week due to a storm that was later deemed to be "microbursts".

No damage to our house or property, mostly because we have been taking down problem trees on our very wooded lot along the way.

Cold!  Had to install an IR light behind my house in a tree for my camera system.  Spliced into a 12 VDC cable which I can't do with gloves on.

You have a camera system? Do you live in a high crime neighborhood?

No and helping in keeping it that way.  9 cameras connected to a DVR and VHS time lapse recorder. A few don't like I have my front yard / sidewalk covered, I wonder why?

Security systems has come down a lot in price, can be wired, wireless or in combination.  Some home owners insurance rates will be a little lower if a system is installed.  Internet monitoring is optional

Couple of examples

Wired

Wireless

Have a "tower cam" I made myself that allow me to do this - only on VHS at present.

Minus the music:lol:

Looks like a whole new hobby.  I'm already doing something similar with TCM, just so I can record movies offline to keep on my own terms, so that would be kind of an overload for me. :P

It rained hard enough so I could hear it on my aluminum awnings on the west side of my house late Friday night.  This was a good sign as my area has been under drought conditions since mid-September (about 7 inches short of normal in the 3-month span).  I stayed up until 2 watching the Diamond Head Classic from Honolulu before I went to bed.  When I got up this morning, about an inch of snow had fallen and actually stuck to the grass and rooftops!  The trees looked very wintry too.  After several inches of snow blanketed parts of the South a couple of weeks ago, I was lamenting the possibility that Atlanta got more snow in one day than I'd probably see all Winter!  Most of what fell overnight is supposed to melt today, but there's a chance for another inch of snow heading into Sunday morning.  With the temperatures supposedly trending cooler than Saturday, there's a chance we'll have a White Christmas, even though it might be a minor one.

I checked my A/C system's outdoor-temperature gauge around noon today, and it read 101 degrees F. It doesn't normally read high, so the heat-index temp is probably higher.

To put that in perspective, the average high for this date in my area is 89 degrees, and the prior record was 94 degrees.

It's been raining so many weeks here in Northeast Kansas that every other evening people are preparing for serious thunderstorms, tornadoes, or flash floods.

That tends to keep the temperature cooler-- but there doesn't seem to be any end in sight for this habitual rain of biblical proportions.

We're having the opposite problem. Too little rain has triggered forest fires across north Florida, shutting down highways due to smoke. We had a few bad years in the late 2000's with severe drought and terrible forest fires that had ash raining down like snow for days at a time. Hopefully it won't get that bad again.

Mid 90's.  Won't forget the Memorial Day weekend back in 1991, was 102 for several days.  Hard to forget when remodeling a porch.

I just looked at another weather service that stated that the average temp for this area on this date is 86 degrees, and that the record high was 101 degrees in 2017.

Whatever the actual average/record is, all I know is that it's hot today. ☀️🔥:o
