GUESS WHO?

3,931 posts in this topic

All correct so far.  We still need #1, #3, #8 and #13.

#1 played a lot of nervous little men.  He often played a clerk in a store or a hotel.  In another thread, I recently posted a clip of Ann Miller singing a song.  That song was also the title of a movie that #1 was in.

#3 was recently seen on TCM in a fast talking movie with Cary Grant.

#8 played an FBI man in one of Hitchcock's favorite movies.

#13 played one of a group of people who lost their land in a Steinbeck story.

Well it took a real team effort, but we have them all now.  Hobart Cavanaugh was in "I'll Remember April", which was also the title of a song that Ann Miller sang in "Eve Knew Her Apples".  Frank Orth was in "His Girl Friday" with Cary Grant.  He was also the police captain in the Nancy Drew series with Bonita Granville.  Frank Darien was in "The Grapes Of Wrath".  Thanks to Princess, Lavender, Lawrence, Rich, and Gershwin Fan.  The thread is now open to whomever would like to post.

#2 looks like Lily Tomlin

#3 looks like Barbara Harris

#9 might be Melanie Griffith

I believe all these ladies were nominated and/or won for best supporting actress, although not necessary for the Academy awards

Hace they all appeared on Broadway and films?

your Broadway connection is correct...but they're all part of a much smaller group..

I think just 4, 6 and 9 remain...any guesses before I add clues?

When I posted Dolores, she wasn't a guess, I'd know her anywhere, she's a favorite of mine. They are all Tony Award winners?

yes, as well as film work, all won a Tony for a Lead role...

I believe that #6 is legendary actress and drama teacher Uta Hagen.

#9 may be Christine Ebersole.  She was once a regular on "Saturday Night Live".

#4 is a bit blurry.  I need a clue or a better photo.

6 is Uta Hagen

9 is indeed Christine Ebersole, who started on soaps before her SNL stint

sorry 4 isn't clear..it's really a pretty good clip of the actress in her very short-lived tv program..she has an unusual voice...and she is quite unique because her daughter is a Tony winner too...

With a clue like the last one, #4 must be Tammy Grimes, the mother of Amanda Plummer.  I found the clip where the photo was taken from.

She has kind of a unique nose.  If the original photo had been a profile view, I think I would have gotten it earlier.

But where's the challenge in that? ?

Yes it's Tammy Grimes..I think (but I haven't actually researched this) that she and Amanda Plummer are the only mother/daughter Tony winners.

Since several people got 3 correct, I'll leave the thread open..thanks for guessing!

#8 is not Peter Cushing but he is British.   The rest that have been identified so far are correct.  If you watched TCM throughout October, you saw several of these guys.

Besides George Hamilton, #9 and #12 are still with us and still active.  The photo of #12 is from a movie he made within the last decade.

#19 is indeed Claude Rains.  In his 1933 original, his character dies at the end, so for the sequel, #20 did not play the same character, but instead he played a man who is administered some of the same serum that caused Claude's condition.

#15 was in many westerns, starring in some "B" westerns and playing supporting roles some "A" films.  He also starred as a superhero in a well known serial.

#14 made his werewolf movie some years before Lon Chaney Jr. did.

Princess, I think you may have missed one with your favorite actor.
