THE GOLDEN COACH (1953)

5 posts in this topic

TCM aired this beautifully made Jean Renoir production in the wee hours of the morning today. Anna Magnani is exquisite as always. She plays a character torn between three men and a golden coach.

The romantic themes in the film are grandly (and subtly) portrayed. Highly recommended.

As much as I love Magnani, I found the story just a little preposterous.

I suppose it is not a film for all tastes-- but those that are willing to stay with it will be richly rewarded at the end.
