Pope Francis Acknowledges, For First Time,

Sexual Abuse Of Nuns By Priests-

".....His comments came in response to a reporter's question on his flight returning to Rome from Abu Dhabi. The reporter asked the pope about a Vatican magazine article published last week detailing reports of sexual abuse by clerics resulting in nuns having abortions or giving birth to children fathered by priests.

"It is true ... there have been priests and even bishops who have done this," said Francis as quoted by Reuters. "I think it is still going on because something does not stop just because you have become aware of it," he added....

Lucetta Scaraffia, editor of the Vatican's women's magazine, Women Church World, has written:

"If the church continues to close its eyes to the scandal — made even worse by the fact that abuse of women brings about procreation and is therefore at the origin of forced abortions and children who aren't recognized by priests — the condition of oppression of women in the church will never change."

The manifesto was the latest jab at Pope Francis from the conservative wing of the church. Already, four other cardinals have called on the Jesuit pope to clarify his outreach to divorced and civilly remarried Catholics.

=====================================

Vatican ex-doctrine chief pens manifesto amid pope criticism

...Mueller wrote that a pastor’s failure to teach Catholic truths was the greatest deception – “It is the fraud of the anti-Christ.”

Francis sacked Mueller as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 2017, denying the German a second five-year term.

In the document, which was published by conservative Catholic media that have been critical of Francis, Mueller repeats basic Catholic teaching that Catholics must be free from sin before receiving Communion. He mentions divorced and remarried faithful, in a clear reference to Francis’ opening to letting these Catholics receive Communion on a case-by-case basis after a process of accompaniment and discernment with their pastors.

Mueller also repeats that women cannot be ordained priests and that priests must be celibate. Francis has reaffirmed the ban on ordination for women but has commissioned a study on women deacons in the early church. Francis has also reaffirmed priestly celibacy but has made the case for exceptions where “pastoral necessity” might justify ordaining married men of proven virtue. .......

Washington D.C. Former Archbishop,

Theodore McCarrick

expelled from Catholic priesthood due to abuse

.....The church has faced questions over its handling of the allegations, with critics claiming it ignored and covered up the alleged crimes.

A letter obtained by the Catholic News Agency and CNN appears to show that the Holy See knew about abuse allegations levelled against McCarrick several months before he was appointed to be cardinal in 2001. ......

A nun just read the riot act to Catholic bishops over clergy sex abuse

In clear, direct and unsparing language, Openibo challenged the church's culture of silence on sexual issues and said priests are too often put on pedestals. Openibo also criticized the practice of letting elderly clergy who had abused children retire quietly with their pension and good names in place.
"Let us not hide such events anymore because of the fear of making mistakes," Openibo said after reading a searing summary of abuse cases she has heard about during her work on sexual education in Nigeria.

"Too often we want to keep silent until the storm has passed! This storm will not pass by. Our credibility is at stake."........

BREAKING: Pope Francis ends summit on clergy sex abuse;

vows to confront abusers with the 'wrath of God" and prioritize victims

Pope Francis condemns clerical sexual abuse but offers no new solutions

"We’ve heard this condemnation, the apologies, the penance, the fasting, but they are all words," one survivor said after the speech.

Survivors of Church Abuse Want Zero Tolerance. The Pope Offers Context.

At a Vatican conference on clerical sexual abuse, victims spoke of their lives being ruined.

Closing the conference, Francis appeared to equivocate.

"....“He spent the bulk of his speech rationalizing that abuse happens in all sectors of society. This is one of his favorite diversionary tactics.”

Barrett-Doyle also pointed to Francis’ saying that the “best results and the most effective resolution that we can offer to the victims” is “the commitment to personal and collective conversion,” that is, to raising spiritual awareness of their wounds.....

how representative are these clerics of the global church? I have a suspicion that there are many other prelates in high positions in the Vatican who still believe the sexual abuse crisis in the Church is an invention by an overly zealous secular media with a grudge to bear against the Church, or a creation of lawyers out for settlements, and not the natural consequence of the crisis of faith that comes about from revelations about a pervasive culture of cover-up in a hierarchical organization that oversees a billion souls.

I hope I’m wrong, but my suspicion is based on years of experience covering the Vatican, which often requires reading between the lines and chasing shadows. I’d like to believe Archbishop Scicluna when he said at the end of the conference that “there is no going back.”.........

Maybe not prohibiting / condemning marriages of priest and nuns can be a good start.  The bible does NOT prohibit it and stop taking Matthew 6:24 ( No man can serve two masters: for either he. will hate the one, and love the other; or else. he will hold to the one, and despise the other, Ye cannot serve God and mammon.) out of context.

Remember both are treated as one flesh, marriage DOES NOT conflict!

If one doesn't like the views\policies\practices of a church,  they should just grow-up and find another church.

I.e. find a church that suits you,  instead of trying to change a church to suit you.

PS:  the 'you' above is general.
