Jonathan Greenblatt Retweeted Washington Post

The idea of a former West Wing official voluntarily speaking to an extreme right wing political org like the National Front is shocking. But proudly, defiantly asserting, "Let them call you racists... nativists... xenophobes," is a stunning, deeply alarming sign of the times.

The  history that is on the side of the anti-Semitic extreme far-right National Front is the Holocaust.

The Vichy-- Nazi  collaborationist government in France during World War II --turned over more than 75,000 French Jewish citizens to the Third Reich to be deported to Nazi concentration and death camps.

72,500 French Jews were killed in the Holocaust.

On July 16-17, 1942 more than 13,000 Jews in in  Paris were rounded up by French police and held in the Velodrome D'Hiver Stadium -- to be shipped to Auschwitz.

Among that number were 4000 Jewish children.

The National Front founder and Emeritus leader Jean-Marie Le Pen was fined and punished with political suspension by the French government for declaring the Holocaust to be a "Footnote in History".

As recently as last April, Marine Le Pen, the current leader of the National Front,  denied and refuted French complicity in the deaths of these Jewish French citizens.

Also in April 2017 Marine Le Pen stepped down from the leadership of the National Front to concentrate on her presidential campaign.

The newly-appointed National Front leader Jean- Francois Jalkh lasted less than a week in the leadership position because it came to public knowledge that he was a Holocaust Denier.

These anti-Semitic stances helped Macron to win the French presidential election.

The National Front's ideological foundation is based on anti-Semitism-- not just in their beliefs and remarks, but also in the tradition of  France's extreme right-wing political history, infamously noted in the Dreyfus Affair.

Mme. Le Pen is doing all she can to get away from the Stench of anti-Semitism, but it's in the DNA of the National Front.
