And...the White House Office of Management and Budget is preparing for the shutdown to continue through *end of February*, according to White House officials who have been briefed on the plans.

The Fix • Analysis
Mitch McConnell could end the shutdown. But he’s sitting this one out.
It doesn't even look like he's trying.

The Trump administration is quietly devising a plan bypassing Congress to give block grants to states for Medicaid, achieving a longstanding conservative dream of reining in spending on the health care safety net for the poor

The White House has declared a travel/photo lid, meaning the President will not have any public events today.

There will, however, likely be many more presidential tweets on this cold, soon-to-be snowy day.

With very good reason.  You learn not to let the mule kick you in the head a second time.  He worked with the Dems to get a compromise and they got it.  Trump said he completely agreed with it and would sign it.  Passed House and would have passed Senate.  But Trump caved in to the extremists in his base and talk media and said he would veto it.

Why in hell would McConnell get involved again?  I think what he is saying is that he will get a compromise through the Senate once Trump emphatically,  unconditionally and without reservation says he will sign it. In addition, Trump would have to repudiate those in his base, the media and talk radio who might criticize him - and mean it.  The problem is you cannot trust Trump because he is dumb, gullible and easily manipulated.

Even without Russia, firing an FBI Dir. for investigating him should‘ve ended his presidency. When it didn’t, firing an AG should have. When it didn’t, picking Whitaker should have. When it didn’t, the increasingly erratic behavior, incoherent statements & corruption should have.

Ted Lieu Retweeted Donald J. Trump

Is there a "national emergency" when:

-@realDonaldTrump is alone in the White House twiddling his thumbs

-Violent crime is down

-Property crime is down

-Immigrants commit less crime

-Border crossings at a 20 year low

-@POTUS is hosting a football party

Trump would lose in court

We have a massive Humanitarian Crisis at our Southern Border. We will be out for a long time unless the Democrats come back from their “vacations” and get back to work. I am in the White House ready to sign!

Julián Castro, the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, has officially launched his 2020 presidential bid.

Castro, 44, will be one of the youngest contenders in the prospective 2020 Democratic field, and likely the only Latino candidate https://politi.co/2D6jf60

Should he change his last name to Lennon or just go for a complete makeover and call himself Desi Arnaz?

If a man like Barack Obama with a name like Barack Obama could be elected president,

then, I think Julian Castro will be just fine.
