Russia plans to test a kill switch that disconnects the country from the internet

As a cyber-defensive measure, the Russian government will reportedly perform a trial run of a measure that would effectively cut off the country from the rest of the world…

"....The test run could be useful to the country for a few reasons. Primarily, Russia aims to simulate the drastic measures it would take in the case of some kind of cyber threat to its national security. But for a country notorious for its restrictive environment for individual and press freedom, the test may also be a useful way to see how the country could wield a more closely held internet to control its own people and guard against foreign interests.

The extreme measure, if successful, would allow Russia to effectively operate its own state-controlled internet and cut itself off from the world as it sees fit.....

Pro-Israel Lobby Caught on Tape Boasting That Its Money Influences Washington

"..... leaders of the pro-Israel lobby speak openly about how they use money to influence the political process, in ways so blunt that if the comments were made by critics, they’d be charged with anti-Semitism.   .......

AIPAC, on its own website, recruits members to join its “Congressional Club,” and commit to give at least $5,000 per election cycle.

Eric Gallagher, a top official at AIPAC from 2010 to 2015, tells the Al Jazeera reporter that AIPAC gets results. “Getting $38 billion in security aid to Israel matters, which is what AIPAC just did,” he notes at one secretly recorded lunch.

“Everything AIPAC does is focused on influencing Congress.” .....

National Security Advisor John Bolton finishes his remarks about #Iran by saying "I don't think you'll have many more anniversaries to enjoy".

Come right ahead, ***wipe.

Bolton is that rare hybrid, a walrus chickenhawk.

He wrote in his Yale 25th reunion book: "I confess I had no desire to die in a Southeast Asian rice paddy. I considered the war in Vietnam already lost." In a 2007 interview, Bolton explained his comment in the reunion book saying his decision to avoid service in Vietnam was because "by the time I was about to graduate in 1970, it was clear to me that opponents of the Vietnam War had made it certain we could not prevail, and that I had no great interest in going there to have Teddy Kennedy give it back to the people I might die to take it away from."

Despite the decrease in the statutory number of detention beds, other aides saying the agreement contains flexibility to reach Trump's requested level of 52,000 beds

Conservatives on the attack over this deal -- but immigrant advocates criticizing the outcome, too, saying it does not achieve a real decrease in ICE beds.

If the definition of a compromise is a deal no one likes ...
