Well, since Kong finally dunked the Big Guy out in Tokyo Bay, I thought I'd post my question.

My career started off on a promising note, including an appearance with Bogie, Bette and Eddie G., but I eventually drifted down into second-rung stardom. I have the unique honor of starring in the general-concensus, last-ever B-western, and I made numerous western televsion appearances as well. I picked an odd place to die, and I share something in common with George Reeves. Who am I?

Damn these boards! I can't figure out how to DELETE a post. Can any of you help?

Within two seconds after answering "John Ireland," I learned that about a half million other guys had already come up with the same answer. So... I tried to delete my now-unnecessary post, but I cannot find where they let you do that.

I'll start working on your new question, Gerb.

I was born in Brooklyn, USA, and began appearing in Broadway plays at an early age. Hollywood noticed me, and it wasn't long before I was appearing in films with some of the biggest stars of the screen.

My personal life wasn't as happy. My first wife committed suicide.

Within a year, I remarried. But now I too became despondent, and committed suicide with the same weapon my first wife had used to kill herself.

Who was I?

No, I'm not Gig Young either.

The unfortunate Gig Young apparently killed his wife, Kim Schmidt, and then turned the gun on himself. So that wasn't a double suicide.

Also, please note the time frame mentioned in my original question. His first wife killed herself first, then the person in question remarried.

Try again.

No, Curt Jergens apparently died of a heart attack.

duffylab and aftermath -- two of our BEST players -- have taken stabs at this one, without coming up with who I really am. So, I'm going to supply some more hints.

After my stage experience, I signed a contract with Paramount, but made only one picture with them. Next, I made a picture for Columbia. But most of my films were made under the aegis of Warner Bros./First National.

Remember, the other hints about my first wife's suicide, and my own LATER suicide, are still in place. Who am I?

Good luck.

No, not Peter Duel.

Pete Duel was 31 when he committed suicide. I find no record that he was ever married, therefore he did not have a wife who also committed suicide. Also, Duel (ne Peter Deuel) was born in Rochester, NY, not Brooklyn, as I was.

I'll supply you with another hint.

At Warner Bros. I usually played second romantic leads. After I killed myself, the studio had to replace me, and so they hired another young actor. My replacement turned out to have a long career. He never achieved superstardom in Hollywood, but he did become President of the United States.

aftermath, you are one of the sharpest experts on this board. I hate to think of you losing any sleep over a silly trivia question. FWIW, I surely wouldn't lose sleep over it.

But... if it is any help, let me add this:

My last film was released after my death.

Who am I?
