The film registers with some of us (me included). I can relate to both characters, as I was somewhat of an ugly duckling/late bloomer myself. The LGBTQ+ community can relate because many of us go through some of the same issues before coming to terms with who we are. Some have criticized the transformation Bette's character goes through, but those things do happen IRL. I was sent overseas for work for nine months. During that time I lost 70 pounds. I came back home, and no one at work recognized me. So it does happen. It may not have been as melodramatic as the film, but it still happens!4 points

The award for Song of the Year is even more obnoxious than the award for Record of the Year because it is a songwriting award. For songs that have lyrics more interesting or thoughtful than "Don't worry, be happy."3 points

Remember when Judy Garland's song from A Star Is Born "The Man That Got Away" was criticized for being grammatically incorrect? When asked why, lyricist Ira Gershwin said that it sounded better than "the man who got away." I agree.2 points

Black Widow (2021) - At least Budapest is expected to be a setting in that movie so we may finally know what the heck these people were talking about... The Avengers (2012): Natasha Romanoff: "This is just like Budapest all over again." Clint Barton: "You and I remember Budapest very differently." Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014): Alexander Pierce: "If you do this, none of your past will remain hidden: not Budapest, Osaka, the Children's Ward. Are you sure you want the world to see you as you truly are?" Avengers: Endgame (2019): Clint Barton: "This is a long way from Budapest."2 points

I was thinking about Robert Osbourne’s set yesterday. Is it still there empty? Someone also finally uploaded a video on YouTube from when Kermit The Frog was a guest programmer in 2007. It wasn’t all the video intros and outros of all his picks. But it was a short video. It was great and he really cracked Robert up. Didn’t he? Maybe they’ll upload all his intros and outros sometime and I hope they have him as a guest programmer again. So I could see him.1 point

Our seventh western star is WILLIAM S. HART According to his wiki page, some of his silent westerns do survive. He had a cameo in SHOW PEOPLE (1928). I wanted to mention him because he's often overlooked. Hart owned substantial property in southern California, particularly in West Hollywood. When I lived there from 2003 to 2004, I would take my Pomeranian to a dog park that was named in his honor. There is a home there which he lived in that is now designated as a historical landmark. I went inside the home for a party that was given by some of my friends at the Actors Studio. I believe the western branch of the Actors Studio still uses some of the property to conduct workshops and perform plays. (There is a shed behind the house that's been converted into a stage and small auditorium.)1 point

Vampyr (1932) – Released from Germany; subtitled in English. A drifter obsessed with the supernatural stumbles upon an inn where a severely ill adolescent girl is slowly becoming a vampire. Director Carl Theodor Dreyer’s first talkie. And it shows… Not much dialog, plus there’s a couple of story boards along the way. Awesome photography. Lots of shadows and camera tricks set the mood perfectly. Interestingly, this was the first film rated “H” in the UK for “Horrific” – likely to scare children under the age of 16. I believe it. IMDb gives it a 7.5; in my opinion, well deserved. Frankly, I’m a little confused with what happened to the main character toward the end of the film. If anyone is familiar with this film, no spoilers, please; please private message me with what I may have missed. Thanks!1 point

I'll never forget the time I saw the 1937 drama "They Won't Forget" on TCM without realizing it was Turner's debut film. She was memorable as Mary Clay, a beautiful business school student whose mysterious murder galvanized the people of a small Southern town and elicited strong opinions from them. Mervyn LeRoy cast the 16-year-old Turner in the film not long after her now-legendary discovery by a publisher at a Hollywood café (she had cut a high school class to enjoy a refreshment from the soda fountain). In her final movie scenes as Mary Clay, she made an indelible impression during her character's fateful walk to the business school during the town's celebration of Confederate Memorial Day.1 point

IT'S NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD, BUT....you can kinda sorta squint and imagine from time to time that DECEPTION, a re-unification of DAVIS, RAINS AND HENREID five years later, is a SUPER DARK SEQUEL to NOW, VOYAGER.1 point

Most likely reason is the source material they used for that airing was once formatted for "standard definition", then that was recycled and later formatted for "widescreen". See my diagram below. This is the first two rows of this diagram, scenario #1).1 point
