  2. The one other child who ultimately reconciled with Woody wrote this in 2018. http://mosesfarrow.blogspot.com/2018/05/a-son-speaks-out-by-moses-farrow.html Plus him, you also have her former servants, all of whom, spoke about bizarre perversities, and you even had other Hollywood figures make comments against Mia, such as Katharine Hepburn.

  8. The first show included routine performing of the album Graceland. The 2nd show was much more recent and a dreadfully hot night ... with lots of booze! Freebies on the premises from my friend who worked there me and my other friend had bought tickets for the show but retreated from the venue because of the oppressive heat. The show again was uninspired, but it was so damned hot, to be fair, I don't blame PAUL.

  10. I remember when they celebrated his 100th Birthday. They showed a few episodes of his show and he did a restaurant skit and right before the commercials. He goes. Something like. Come on back. Because I have a reservation for you at the next table and of course there aren’t any commercials on here. Except for the advertisements after and before the movies. I wish he was still alive. He was so good and he’d make a great SOTM. I really hope it happens sometime. I love him. Of course I’ve seen a few of his movies on here from time to time. The last one was The Inspector General. Which I missed and was going to watch on the Watch TCM app. But I missed it on there too. So I was wondering. How often do they show his movies?

  11. I've really been liking Paul Simon lately. The first time I heard "Kodachrome" was in the movie Coneheads. I would rewind the tape just to hear the song again. This one, too. I like the chord changes.

  20. There was an Indiana Jones marathon over the weekend. We watched some of it. I always liked THE LAST CRUSADE. I read somewhere that Sean Connery is only twelve years older than Harrison Ford, but played his father. Also, I've heard Ford is going to do one more Jones film at age 79. I like these movies and Ford. However, I'd have to say I think he's aged out of the role.

  22. Yes, Bob Hope had a hot streak in the 40s and 50s and so did Bing Crosby. I think the one that surprised me was Alan Ladd. He didn't have a big moneymaker until SHANE, which was his last picture for the studio under contract (he'd come back later for THE CARPETBAGGERS). So Ladd spent ten years making films from LUCKY JORDAN in 1943 to SHANE in 1953, before he had one that earned enough to crack the top ten. We tend to think of Ladd as one of Paramount's biggest stars but in reality, Hope and Crosby were much bigger. As for the 60s, you're right, COME BLOW YOUR HORN did very well with audiences which I find interesting since Sinatra was miscast as a Jewish character. I guess something about the story resonated with moviegoers. WAR AND PEACE was also a big moneymaker though I think it was more successful in Europe than in America. In the 80s Eddie Murphy was the studio's box office king. And in the 90s/2000s Tom Cruise took over. Women really did not reign at the box office at Paramount. It was the men. Sure there were important star actresses like Dorothy Lamour, Betty Hutton, Madeleine Carroll and Veronica Lake. But they were often used in support of the men. And when they were given their own pictures, like Betty Hutton, those did not make as much money. Hutton's biggest hit was THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH but that had an all-star cast and the real draw was Cecil B. DeMille's ability to present a spectacle, not necessarily the performers. Mr. DeMille had many mega hits at Paramount.

  25. The Godfather Trilogy could be TCM premires. Ferris Buller’s Day Off could be a TCM Premire. The Naked Gun Trilogy with The Naked 2/1/2 The Smell Of Fear and The Naked Gun 33/3 The Final Insult as TCM Premires. The Untouchables.and The Hunt For Red October. So some of the movies that are on your lists. I just thought of too. The Godfather is a true classic. I’ve never seen it. But I hear they’re all really good and the first one was part of TCM’s Big Screen Classics Series. So was Ferris Buller’s Day Off. Which I went to see. Really great and really funny movie and I think I actually remember The Untouchables being on here. So maybe it’s actually been on here quite a few times and Sir Sean Connery’s in it and quite a few famous people and The Hunt For Red October has both Sir Sean Connery and James Earl Jones in it. Which I also haven’t seen. But hear it’s really good and I’m not sure it’s ever been on here or not. But maybe. So I think these few are great choices.

  26. OK, I've been working on one and here goes. This couple was married for 57 years. He died on their final anniversary day. Their respective careers spanned the 20's to the 70's. Hers ended in the 50's, his, the 70's. While neither were ever nominated for Oscars, at least 3 of his were nominated for best picture. At least one of hers was too. Her most memorable role was in a 30's adaptation of one America's greatest 20th century novels. (I have a personal connection to this particular novel that I will reveal later). She appeared in one of Bette Davis' greatest movies. Another Hollywood icon (Katherine Hepburn) considered him one of Hollywood's greatly underappreciated leading men; up there with Bogart and Tracy. They appeared in at least 2 movies together. The first after which they wed. The marriage was the only one either ever had. See what you can do. I will give more hints, if necessary, tomorrow.

  31. I had a friend who had difficulty watching Avalon because the dinner scene reminded him so much of his own family! I loved the Baltimore (or "Bolmer," as some of the locals call it) setting, which I recall as being authentic. It was unusual to see the very English Joan Plowright playing the matriarch of the family, though she was convincing. I still quote the line "You cut the toikey without me?" And yes, Washington and Cal both have lousy basketball teams this year!

  35. I checked out SINNER'S HOLIDAY a WARNER BROS VITAPHONE ALL-TALKING MOTION PICTURE! from 1930 on TCM ON DEMAND. [still THRILLED to PIECES that it's not OSCAR MONTH BTW...] It was worth watching for three things: 1. JAMES CAGNEY in his FILM DEBUT is SEXUAL ELECTRICITY and has, perhaps, one of his most challenging parts and scenes and he is outstanding; EVEN AT THE ONSET, IT'S CLEAR THAT IF CAGNEY IS IN THE PICTURE YOU WERE GONNA GET YER NICKEL'S WORTH!! 2. JOAN BLONDELL in an early role (maybe her first as well?)- she is a brunette but in all other respects, she is 100% the JOAN BLONDELL we all know and love- WORLD WEARY as ALL GET-OUT. JOAN BLONDELL, not here for your BS since 1930 BUT, most fascinating of all was the performance of 3. LUCILLE LAVERNE as CAGNEY'S MOTHER (and CHIEF DEFENDER)- she would later voice THE WICKED QUEEN/ THE WITCH in Disney’s SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, and her voice in SINNER'S HOLIDAY sounds MUCH like the one she uses in character as THE WITCH. You can also see that the Disney animators clearly used some of her features for THE WITCH. she is absolutely outstanding AND THE BEST THING IN THE FILM. THIS CHICK WAS HARDCORE MOST UNFORTUNATE THOUGH, IT IS TO NOTE THAT CAGNEY and BLONDELL are NOT the FILM'S LEADS, that's two UTTER DEADBEATS played by GRANT WITHERS and some broad whose name I'm not even gonna look up SHE STUNK SO BAD. They both MURDERED every minute they were on screen and it was a DAMN SHAME that it was a 60/40 split with them stealing most of the one hour screen time from JIMMY, JOAN and LUCILLE. Still an interesting film, a little slow for a Precode, but for those who also like CARNIVAL FILMS, this one will appeal to you.
