  1. I have tried twice to vote but each ended with the: "lydecker cannot receive messages" error. Have you been sent to your room and grounded because you were a naughty boy?

  12. The formation of Cagney Productions was announced in 1942, so it had no ownership interest in Angels. The brothers James and William planned to produce movies that would be released through United Artists. They went broke pretty much after The Time of Your Life. Angels With Dirty Faces is public domain. Edit 9 hours later: Maybe not.

  13. They could just do a disclaimer before the movie indicating their lack of "consent". What they're doing now is a disservice to the viewer in that it doesn't allow for them to come to their own conclusions, or think they're capable of coming to an objective one. It's almost as if TCM is trying to sway their audience into what to think or how to feel. Sepiatone

  17. One of the other really useful things about George Segal is that he always reads as "New Yorker" but in a way that appeals to people from other parts of the country. Some actors do "New York obnoxious" really well, but Segal can, if the part calls for it, play the sophistication and smarts of the New Yorker without losing a certain edge. King Rat leans more to the sharper edge, but Segal brings just enough attractiveness to make Corporal King even more successful and more dangerous. Offhand, I can't think of another actor quite like him, but there would probably always be roles that a "George Segal type" could play.

  30. These are two of my favorites also. I recently watched: Counterpart (2017-2019) with him playing parallel-world opposites. He was great as both the meek becoming strong and the jerk becoming human. I have seen CCH Pounder in several things but she will for all time be: Mrs. Frederic to me. This brings to my mind also how wonderful: Saul Rubinek is in his many incarnations.

  31. Words fail me in trying to convey how much I HATE this idea. As far as I can tell, these pre-film discussions are nothing but video "trigger warnings." It's embarrassing, condescending and infantilizing of the TCM audience. Hard not to see this as the beginning of a slippery slope. Yesterday, scrolling through a Tumblr, I came across a still from Visconti's Rocco and His Brothers and found myself wondering if someday (soon) TCM will need to "discuss" this one with us before each airing because there's a rape in it. This is bad, bad business. PS: If TCM feels so strongly that a "discussion" of these films is necessary...guess what? You can tell us to head to tcm.com for it. That's what websites are for!!!

  32. And yet, not until now, NO mention of the late, great JERRY ORBACH? With a 49 year career of film appearances in character and some supporting roles, and a few uncredited (in "Guys and Dolls" and "Marty" for instance) and of course, his Broadway roles(ie; as Mickey Finn in "Chicago") before wrapping up his career as the beloved Det. LENNY BRISCOE in the long running LAW & ORDER series. Sepiatone

  36. After four years I am starting to wonder when Noir Alley might have to end. While I hope it's not anytime soon, I am curious as how many more years it has left. Although I was a little late finding this wonderful bit of programming. my best guestimate is Eddie has shown close to two hundred movies from the genre. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like most of the popular movies that fall into the category have been shown. Of late the films he is presenting now are either very obscure or it's a reach to even classify them as noir. I know from reading here that there are probably many more great films that TCM cannot show due to licensing restrictions. Also, the fact that as many of you have pointed out, there have been some repeats recently. All this makes me worry that I'll have to go back to watching the Sunday morning news shows at some point (UGH!) Anyway, I'm curious as to what you all might think. Please put my mind at ease that Noir Alley will continue to keep me entertained for a few more years.
