Okay, HERE'S what I'd tell 'em and BEFORE they'd even ask the question: "What date in December is TCM going the show It's a Wonderful Life?", I'd tell 'em TCM isn't ever going to show It's a Wonderful Life and because the NBC Television Network has owned the sole rights to show that flick on TV(and interrupted every ten freakin' minutes or so with some freakin' commercial) for about thirty years now. Ya see, THIS way I'd be PROACTIVE here! And because YOU KNOW we're gonna get THAT damn question asked on these boards AT LEAST five or six times by various newbies to this channel and starting just about when Thanksgiving rolls around again this year! (...yep, that's what I'D tell a newbie to this channel, alright!) LOL5 points

I would also like to believe that in the parallel universe, there was a long-running, one hour, primetime show that starred Grayson Hall and Eileen Heckart as a pair of bitter spinster sisters, one a librarian and one a substitute teacher, who solve murders in-between coffee, cigarettes and b1tch sessions...4 points

the legendary sticksman did not have a drum set at home. Charlie once said it was because his wife of 57 years, Shirley, didn’t like the noise. He explained: “I can’t play the drums at home so I have to go on the road, and to go on the road, I have to leave home, and it’s like a terribly vicious circle that’s always been my life.”He once said: “The one regret I have of this life is that I was never home enough.”4 points

You pretty much hit everything in this post and your list post. I've been fortunate enough to have TCM from the very beginning back in April 1994, and I watched it from the beginning. The movie they seemed to overplay that first couple of years? Believe it or not it was the 1929 film "Sally" if I remember correctly. AMC was left with the Paramount, Universal, and Republic pictures you mention as being missing on TCM. That is probably because of the unrestored nature of those films more than anything that you never see them on TCM. This is not a reminiscing thread, but one thing I really miss that TCM had for a few years that got killed by the Great Recession - The Young Composers' Competition. There would be a contest for scoring a silent film with the winner having the film broadcast along with their score. MGM has most of their film library intact, including their silents. It would be nice if those could get scored and taken out of mothballs.3 points

This is a nice list but I would re-word #6: to me it is irrelevant how one defines "classic". What is relevant to a potential new viewer is the movies that will be shown; So I would just say over 80% of the films shown will be American Studio-Era talking films (1929 - 1968), with the remainder a mix of post Studio-Era films, silent and foreign films.3 points

Lydia the Tatooed Lady was written by EY Harburg for lyrics and Harold Arlen. for the music. The same 2 who wrote Somewhere Over the Rainbow and the original songs for the Wizard of Oz. Michael Feinstein is a very talented pianist and singer, He recorded Lydia the Tatooed Lady on one of his albums. Michael Feinstein founded the Great American Songbook Foundation. Michael Feinstein worked with Ira Gershwin. The Library of Congress appointed Michael Feinstein to the National Recording Preservation Board. The song Lydia The Tatooed Lady was sung by Groucho in At the Circus and was one of Groucho's signature songs. Virginia Weidler sang ( the first verse) in The Philadelphia Story.3 points

Got snagged by The Smiling Lieutenant (1931). Wasn't planning on watching. I've seen it many times, but its wit, charm and all around adorableness is irresistible. It has a level of naiveté and innocence remarkable even for its time. But it's coupled with Lubitsch's trademark worldliness and sly innuendo (wink, wink). The weird mismatch creates comic energy. Everyone in it is a pro, but Miriam Hopkins steals it all at the end: Gosh, she's fabulous. But what is it with Lubitsch and staircases? He must think they had great comic value. He has people scampering up and down them all the time. Not only in this, but in other of his movies, like Trouble in Paradise (1932).3 points

Pardon Us (1931) Laurel & Hardy's first feature length film, they end up in prison. Funniest scene is where teacher James Finlayson instructs a class of tough inmates and treats them like children.3 points

Thursday, August 26 Tony Randall SUTS 8 p.m. 7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964). For me, Randall avoids racial miscasting criticism as the Oriental Lao when he purposely slips out of the accent from time to time which is a clear wink to the audience.3 points

The most emotion I ever saw from Charlie Watts was when he cracked an ironic smile in the direction of Mick Jagger's famously eccentric dance style in the video for "Start Me Up". Charlie Watts was the brilliantly drumming Sphinx of The Rolling Stones. Sitting up there unobtrusively making the frontmen look so good, while they took all the bows. But it's all over now. May God Bless Charlie Watts.3 points

They both debuted within a week of each other, and were in the Top 25 at the end of their first season. I think the novelty wore off. Also, ABC was running Batman's second weekly episode (Thursday) opposite The Munsters, in their second season, which likely hastened the decline of that show. Both Batman episodes were in the Top 10 in its first season. John Astin has stated in interviews that he was shocked when it was cancelled. The Addams Family second season on ABC was scheduled against Hogan's Heroes on Fridays on CBS. Hogan's Heroes was also in the Top 10 that season (65-66). In the first season of The Addams Family, CBS tried at least 4 different shows as competition. NBC ran Bob Hope's Chrysler Theater or a Bob Hope special in that time slot, but ABC won that timeslot easily in the first year. Both shows would also have to move to color for their 3rd season, which would increase production costs, and likely would have required significant retooling of the sets and definitely the makeup (though the Munsters pilot was shot in color).2 points

KLS (the oracle) said that on rare occasions an actor would use a profanity deliberately to require a retake. ABC could tolerate somethings but not an "Oh motherf*****" at 4 in the afternoon.2 points

Maybe they're trying to make the point that horror films can air year round, not just in October. Personally I wish they'd air some Christmas movies during other times of the year so that December can be freed up for a mix of genres...holiday films as well as other stuff. CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT (1945) was released by Warner Brothers in August 1945 not December. Paramount released WHITE CHRISTMAS (1954) in October 1954 not December. Etc.2 points

I found that the small hotel owner/operators were very cooperative in dealing with issues. Due to a misunderstanding, I thought we had booked 2 nights at a hotel in Rothenburg Germany, but we had really only booked one night. The owner called around and found us another room for the 2nd night. On Her Majesty's... was filmed in the Mürren area, and the villages up on the mountain are car free, so no driving! You park down in the valley and take either a very steep cable car lift (two actually to get to Mürren, and then two more to get up to the top where the film was shot) or a train. The town has about 500 permanent residents, but has over 2000 hotel rooms. You can also hike up if you wish. We hiked down and took the lift back up! The video shows the "Bond World" attraction on top of the mountain, but when I was there, it was simply a restaurant up there and not quite so touristy. This video shows the trip up and the "Bond World" area on top. It was a cloud free day, which is rare at that elevation.2 points

7. Walston would later say he took the role in My Favorite Martian solely for the money: “I can’t tell you how many times I have told anybody who would listen that I wish I had never done that series!” “But after just four episodes, I thought, ‘What am I doing here?'” he said. “I’m running around with two pieces of wire coming out of my head. I must be crazy!”2 points
