Fox Movie Channel is showing *Everybody Does It* on Janusry 21, 2010 (ET). It's cute -- and even better than the original -- Wife, Husband, and Friend
-
You are so right about Marc Eliot!! He is terrible. Also, stay away from biographies written by David Bret and Darwin Porter. Very tabloid.

What I don't get is why George wasn't a big movie musical star with that voice? He could have been wonderful on Broadway, etc. Guess he was already typed as a character actor/heavy. He has so many facets to his performing abilities that it boggles the mind....
-
Maybe Bette Davis requested George Brent time and time again for two reasons: 1) He NEVER overshadowed the leading lady and 2) He left black hairdye stains all over her pillowcase when they had an affair. Also, some interesting tidbits about Mr. George Brendan Nolan -- he was a licensed pilot, and when asked why their marriage failed, Ann Sheridan famously quipped "Brent Bent!."

Wouldn't it be great if George could be *Star of the Month*?? I know he is considered a character actor but he played leading man roles, too. Do you think it is possible?? Mary

Has anyone ever noticed that the country club interior set from Carefree (1938) and Aunt Elizabeth's house in Bringing Up Baby (also 1938) are the same? RKO made good use recycling this set!!! Mary

Of course I will, Moviejoe!! Please forgive my tardiness but this dumb system only accepts perhaps my every 10th attempt to use the system. The GFFF will be held in Gloversville, NY (home of Samuel Goldwyn) from June 5th - 8th, 2003. (Gloversville is about 45 minutes from Albany). They are planning on screening Pocketful of Miracles and Gilda, too. Anne Francis will be in attendance as well as Peter Ford, son of Glenn and Eleanor Powell. For more info, go to www.glennfordonline.com. But note that the date for the GFFF is incorrectly listed on the site. Hope this is helpful. :-) Mary P.S. Moviejoe, if you know anyone who wants to go, let me know because I could use a roommate. I already booked my room at the only hotel in town. Everyone else from the GFFF is staying there, too.

Was just wondering if any of you old movie buffs were planning on attending the Glenn Ford Film Festival in Gloversville, NY on June 5th - 8th??? :-) Mary

The Early 30s not as innocent as we think!

Finally, I am able to post a message again....Hallelujah! I thought that the Complicated Women documentary was decent but not great. Jane Fonda was a good choice for narrator. The images and clips were the best part, along with seeing Karen Morley and Frances Dee, who both look smashing. It was nice that they dedicated it to the late Ms. Morley. I gotta say, that, as usual, Moira hit it right on the head. Why not just turn the camera on Morley and Dee and get all the dirt???? As for the "Complicated Women" and "Dangerous Men" books, they are okay but not great. As usual, I liked learning all the things about the stars I never knew. The wonderful Warren William never has much written about him and what a pity. A great pre-code screen presence, indeed.... JMO.... :-) Mary -

Speaking of Edith Head, I was wondering if anyone has read the new book just out about her? The author has a long Italian last name which I cannot remember how to spell but his first name is David. Is it worth buying??? Thanks for your input!! :-) Mary

Mongo, For some unknown reaon, MGM dubbed in Allan Jones' singing voice for Dennis Morgan in "A Pretty Girl is Like A Melody" from The Great Ziegfeld!!! Mary
-
Patypancake, I read the article on Irene Manning in Films of the Golden Age!!! Thank you in advance for any information you find out about Desert Song. What ashame for all of us that Warner Bros. never did team up Morgan and Manning for any more musicals!! :-) Mary

And every line from His Girl Friday!!!

I like how Ginger Rogers answers James Craig's marriage proposal in Kitty Foyle[/b]: "Do you think you can find my finger under all these blankets?" (She is holding the newborn baby he has just delivered). In One, Two, Three, I also like how Jimmy Cagney describes Ingeborg, his secretary, after getting a whiff of her perfume --- "like all the lilacs in Lower Bavaria." But my absolute favorites have got to be the exchanges between Humphrey Bogart and Claude Rains in Casablanca. I also like it when Captain Renaud says: "I am shocked, SHOCKED, to find out that gambling has been going on here!" Croupier aside: Here are your winnings... These are just the few great ones I can think of... Mary

Please forgive me for not posting this is in the Information section but I have been having the worst time just posting at all!!! I was wondering if anyone knows exactly why the Dennis Morgan/Irene Manning movie, The Desert Song, (1943) is not able to be shown or purchased on video...I would love to see this one in all its Technicolor glory!!! Many thanks for any info.... :-) Mary
-
I would have to pick Robert Taylor, George Brent, and Tyrone Power from the golden years and Paul Newman and Robert Redford from the 60s and 70s. :-) Mary
-
I would want to find out... Were Tyrone Power and Tom Drake, respectively, really gay? Did Harlow and Gable ever get it on? Did William Powell regret never marrying Harlow? What really happened to Barbara LaMarr in the San Francisco hotel room? Did Sinatra always hold the torch for Ava? What did Kay Francis do after she left movies? Did Joan Crawford ever really appear in that infamous stag film? Was Robert Taylor's marriage to Barbara Stanwyck real or not? There's always more but these are good for now. Guess we'll never really know the truth... Mary

Loved it, Mongo!!! You hit JC right on the head!!! Mary
