[Who is this man in "Broadway Rhythm"]

There was this really funny man who came out of a haystack..had a big mouth and then did a bunch of impressions...who was he?

It is an old black and white movie ..a sort of comedy...I do not remember the actors but I do remember an important scene. The girl (who has dark long hair and is funny) steps on a chair and in falls as she walks on it but it is done on purpose (kinda like a vauderville stunt)..then the older man kinda reminds me Of Edmund Gwen might be but a man that looks similar to him does it also. The same type of scene was also done in another movie called "Benny and Joon" but with a bench in a park was used in the scene when Johnny Depp did it. Please help me!
