  1. And now, miserable Earth-dwellers, for my final display of Andromedan superiority... I will switch all your primitive radio frequencies to broadcast recordings of Andromedan folk music...by a singer known to you Earthers as........... "SLIM WHITMAN"!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Check on www.imdb.com for production details, etc. It appears you might be able to get a copy through Something Weird Video.
  3. Mon cher Alfred, you told me this was the way to make a gun with your fingers...my friends, they all laugh at me now...
  4. Now, I remember distinctly...you had two brioches at breakfast this morning...tomorrow, it's your turn to pick up the cheque!
  5. Give me back my jawbreaker, or I'll break your jaw!
  6. Rare wardrobe test photo for new feature, "SPARTACUS IN THE 24TH CENTURY".
  7. HD-DVD???? BLU-RAY??? Oh, dear Earthlings...how primitive you are! THIS is the future of video recording...
  8. Guess what, Earthlings? You're screwed...or am I? Message was edited by: wordmaster
  9. By George [er...David], I think you've hit on something here! I'm certainly game to devise some zany captions for some not-so-classic images [and maybe some classic ones that are in need of a new twist...] We could post an image and let people take their best shot at it...sort of a 'funhouse mirror' look at film... Something about our friend makes me think that he could be a door-to-door sex aid salesman from the planet Frunobulax...must be the hat...
  10. Close, but not close enough. One of Bush's friends might be that guy with the funny hat in the other thread. Who is that guy anyway, DavidEnglish? [i wonder if that hat tunes the aliens in or out...]
  11. Correct, Inglis. Onward and upward you go...[or whichever way trivia goes].
  12. I seem to have forgotten my sunscreen, so I had better not bask in this glow for too long. So, a beginner question: Who has friends named Koko, Tramp and Society Red?
  13. Thanks, CharlieT - I need all the help I can get! G-Man = Ned Beatty [silver Streak] role: Bob Sweet Seaman = Jon Voight [Noah's Ark] [made-for-TV miniseries] role: Noah [phew] Too much work on a holiday weekend for me...
  14. So, this guy walks into this surrealist bar and disgraceful lovely sandpiper illustrious philosophical castaway take no playsuit do my convulsion for start or rubbish vinegar leave my indenture lodging to fall no knife pointsman ceremonious sustain associative timekeeper change the turgid prostitute brain chianti top hat mortifying veneer ellipsis insanity black hole embowel detonator... [an excerpt from my actual collection of junk e-mail subject lines...]
  15. If I'm not intruding/stepping on toes, I'd like to try and help out with the following speculations: Shark = Burt Reynolds [sharky's Machine] Ozark = Ronny Cox [bound for Glory] role: Ozark Bule G-Man = Jon Voight [Enemy of the State] Seaman = Ned Beatty [showboat] [he played Cap'n Andy on Broadway]
  16. Only guessing, but it may be "The Guns of Navarone"... Check the Movie Database on this site for a plot summary, or on www.IMDb.com, and see if this rings a bell with you.
  17. I think you mean "Seven Men From Now"...and yes, this film [which I just watched this morning] is one of the best Westerns I have seen. The dialogue alone makes this film worth recommending - almost minimalist in nature. Two top-quality performances by Randolph Scott and Lee Marvin [i would've liked to have seen his character face off with Scott's in a series of films].
  18. Thanks for that, coffeedan! TCM recently aired "Vigil in the Night" and am now a newly converted Lombard enthusiast. I now refer to her as 'the luminous one', and have recorded her name in the "Breathtakingly Beautiful" thread for posterity. I look forward to viewing many of the films you mentioned in your informative overview of her short career.
  19. There you go, Jack...that explains what I was noticing...it's less noticeable as I see her onscreen vs. in photos. Garbomaniac: [chuckling at the "Thumper" reference] Correct. We all have our flaws; this peculiarity certainly doesn't take away from my enjoyment of her acting talents. DavidEnglish: Thanks for the heads-up re: upcoming Lombard films, esp. My Man Godfrey which I will put in my little notebook which sits on the table with my movie guides.
  20. well, dpd, it could be something in the water...more likely just luck. Something about Norma Shearer that disquiets me, though...most photos that I have seen of her make her look...crosseyed isn't quite the right word, but a little off-kilter...despite that, the only film that I have seen her in recently ["A Free Soul"] was a very good performance. I look forward to seeing more of her work. Thanks for all the recommendations [both dramatic and comedic] of Lombard films to see - more pleasurable viewing is just what I need for the upcoming long weekend.
  21. I have not gone through all the responses on this thread, to check if this name has arisen frequently, but I will mention her name and maybe we can divert some attention from the "Hedy" thread...now, wait a minute, all you Lamarr enthusiasts out there, I am sure there must be room for a number of women in our "universe of beauty"...bear with me, please. Last night [incredible as it may seem] I watched my first movie with... CAROLE LOMBARD and I was riveted to the screen. The picture that I had of her in my mind was certainly of someone lovely, but I never thought that someone could be so...luminous. The film I saw was "Vigil in the Night" with the luminous one, Anne Shirley and [the not-so-bad looking himself - a more brooding and charismatic version of George Brent, if I do say so] Brian Aherne. I don't know how many serious roles Carole has in her filmography but I was quite taken with her performance in this film, and will seek out more of this side of her repertoire so that I may bask in the moonlit glow of her presence. P.S. I will also put in a word for the equally riveting Nancy Kwan who has only improved with the passing years...
  22. Thanks kindly for your explanation, and those from the other posters. That clears up the picture for me. Alas, life is not simple for us movie watchers, is it?
  23. [smug self-satisfaction garland with clusters to the one who can identify where the subject line comes from...not an exact quote, but a paraphrase] Now, to my question: I am wondering why the following films are not available to Canadian audiences in July: Fear Strikes Out [July 3] The Story of G.I. Joe [July 15] Baby Doll [July 16] Sinner's Holiday [July 17] This question is asked only out of curiosity, and with a side of frustration, and not out of anger. I am relatively new to TCM and am curious as to the various reasons why films are [un]available to different viewing audiences. Message was edited by: wordmaster
  24. I just lie down and take a nap man.
