Anyway... Color, modern day, directed by Ken Wiseman (Underworld; Live Free or Die Hard), star Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, a lot less talk, talk, talk but more gadgets and explosions. It'll be just GREAT!
If Brangelina aren't available, Ashton and Demi would also be PERFECT.

William Holden and Ricky Schroder in The Earthling (1980)
-
And as a trivia question, what other Lauren Bacall movie also features that song?
-
I will happily be the first to counter this proposal.
Please do NOT bring Andy Williams Show to TCM (sic). Please let TCM remain focused on showing classic movies, and let another channel show classic TV shows.
However, please let SOME other channel broadcast these rarely seen shows before they become as lost as the majority of feature films made before 1930!

I believe what you meant to say was:
"Giff me a viskey, chincher ale on da side... an doan be stinchy, behbee."
At least that's how it always sounds to me.

My top choice is Dorothy Malone's erotic dance in Written On the Wind.
Close runner up is pathetic dipsomaniac Gaye Dawn (Claire Trevor) warbling Moanin' Low in Key Largo.
Honorable mention go to the beautiful (to me, breathtaking) waltz scenes in both Madame Bovary (1949) and Since You Went Away.

Neely O'Hara, Lyon Burke, Ted Casablanca and Helen Lawson

And I find that as a Douglas Sirk substitute when I've watched all of his films recently and am itching for something similar, Delmer Daves' late-'50s/early-'60s work will often scratch the itch.
Kings Go Forth
A Summer Place
Parrish
Susan Slade
Rome Adventure

For heaven's sake why pick on Paulette Goddard? Besides, her appearance in The Great Dictator alone probably provides her with more visibility to the casual movie-goer of today than Garbo gets. That film has 19,790 votes on IMDB to place it in their top 100 - Ninotchka has been voted on 4176 times and Camille 1368 times. A whopping 527 people have bothered to vote their opinion of Anna Christie.
Don't get me wrong - I'm pro-Garbo, but enough truly is enough here.

Please know that I did not mean to single you out as a "ranter". I just meant that instead of all us discussing with each other how much we don't like the new bug (preaching to the choir, if you will) let's make sure we actually direct our discontent toward those who might be able to effect a change - the folks at TCM who make the decisions on the matter.
Fellow-ranter,
Gregory

I don't like it either, but I have a feeling that ranting about it here is probably not the best way to try to effect a change. As far as I know, there's no guarantee that the powers that be at TCM (with the occasional exception of tcmprogrmmr) will ever read these messages.
So, does anyone know of a mailing address of email address where one can voice his or her opinion in a way that it might actually be heard and counted by those who make the actual decisions regarding use of the on-screen logo?

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
I was beginning to get genuinely concerned about the lack of early '30s films (my faves) on TCM lately, but what a complete turnaround in the month of December. Now my only concern is how much space I'll have on TIVO in case I can't watch them all fast enough. I can't remember the last time I was so pleased with the offerings while reading the monthly schedule. A very nice Xmas present from TCM indeed.
There's a lot that I'm excited about, but I'll single out two in particular - So Big is a wonderful film with a great performance by Stanwyck, and We're Rich Again (although I think it's not very well regarded) is a movie I saw years ago (on AMC back when that was a channel I was willing to watch) and found very funny and enjoyable - Edna May Oliver is a hoot in it.
-
Tony Martin was also born in 1912, but not until December while Karl Malden was born in March. So unless someone else comes up with another that we haven't thought of yet, that would make Karl Malden the only famous actor born before the sinking of the Titanic who's still alive today.

MGM producer/writer Sam Marx wrote a book alleging that Paul Bern's death was a murder that was covered up by the studio to protect Harlow. The book is:
"Deadly Illusion: Jean Harlow and the Murder of Paul Bern," 1990. Random House.
There are lots of used copies available through Amazon for as low as $1.25!

Others born in 1917 include:
Dannielle Darrieux
Marsha Hunt
Googie Withers
Laraine Day
Lena Horne
Brenda Joyce
Zsa Zsa Gabor
Phyllis Diller
-
Cary Grant: "Insanity runs in my family. It practically gallops!"
-
In addition to those mentioned, don't forget:
Doris Eaton - 3/14/1904
Mary Carlisle - 3/3/1912
June Havoc - 9/18/1913
Grace Bradley - 9/21/1913
Patricia Morison - 3/19/1915
Dody Goodman - 10/28/1915
Dorothy Dare - 4/4/1916
Olivia de Havilland - 7/1/1916

Frankly I agree with you about the AFI lists. I just enjoyed providing some fodder that indicated that, not only does it not take the earth 365 days to make a full orbit around her life-giving light and warmth, nor did she rise from the dead on the third day to save us from our sins, but there are actually some out there who dare to claim that (gasp) she's not even the brightest star in the cinematic firmament.
-
Oy vey. It was her birthday. They played three movies in succession. To me that says "acknowledged" much more than "ignored". No?
We all have personal wish lists of things that TCM either can't do, won't do, or haven't gotten around to doing yet. Why not use this 3-film tribute as a way of thanking them for something that they DID do.
-
The AFI lists Garbo at #5 (for women) and Cagney at #8 (for men). So she wins that round.
Alas, Garbo is simply not as big a star as Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Audrey Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman who take the 1-4 spots.
Cagney, however, must eternally bow down to Bogart, Cary Grant, James Stewart, Brando, Astaire and Henry Fonda.

Count me in with That Darn Cat! and Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
Both of them "cat" flicks from 1965, too.
-
Paulette Goddard says that line ("where I spit") in The Women, I believe.

You say tomato, I say tomahto.
Some guy appeared in a bunch of best picture nominees - I'll leave it to you fine folks to work out the details. If I tried to fix it I'm sure I'd no doubt change it to either John Heard or Mary Beth Hurt.
Apparently the spark plugs controlling my synapses are overdue for replacement.

Lauren Becall time :)

Wha, wha, what???
This, to me, is the equivalent of johnbabe finding proof-positive that Garbo was indeed the pilot of the Enola Gay, and somehow I missed it!
Is there any way to find out when this might re-air?
