Although I'm a senior, I do not feel death impending. It's simply easiest to wait until the DVD arrives at my library (or these days) shows up on free streaming. I'm a Judy fan so OF COURSE I'll watch it, along with the other biopics. I can always turn it off if it's a bore. Let's not forget when Judy died her body was sent to a cemetery morgue where sadly, she waited for over a year to be interred. Where were her children then? Legend has it when Sinatra learned of this, he purchased this modest vault for her internment. It was only a year or two ago Judy's body was sent to CA for a big elaborate monument in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Guess none of her children wanted the same lonely forgotten fate-there's room for them alongside (above!) her.

We just toured the "Shawshank" prison in Mansfield Ohio-we visit a lot of decommissioned US prisons and Asylums and this was among the best. Please help keep them intact and open to the public by visiting them. They even offer a tour of several locations used in the movie: https://shawshanktrail.com/sites-listed/

How can it be "fuller"? Sounds like a police report sans plate numbers!

DECEMBER SCHEDULE UP! SOTM JOAN BLONDELL

And there was one NYE that was all Astaire/Rogers films - a big hit at my semi annual NYE party. The Thin Man marathon was a huge dud for partygoers-too serious & requiring engagement. The Marx Bros engaged so many viewers, I had to turn the volume up! TCM NYE marathons are a great way for people to have that last big plate of lasagna or dessert and sober up before going home. Otherwise they have to sleep over in a haunted guest room, haha. -
Heh, rediscovering this thread- reading your post my mind's voice said, Uh no, people in California, especially LA have a slicker "look"than most of the rest of the US. People dress pretty colorfully, have coiffed hair, etc. In contrast, NYC people are drab, wear blue, black & gray as if they don't want to be noticed, in LA people want to be noticed! And Syracuse people are the worst. A sea of orange SU & various sport jerseys, baggy jeans, dirty sneakers. Men sport shaved heads/tattoos and gals from 12 to 80 have severely pulled back ponytails and never wear make up.

Very sorry to hear this as well. I am a big Cars fan, actually seeing them in a bar before they hit it big. I was around 16 entirely illegal-woo-hoo! Same songs, too. Guys wearing red leopard spot spandex pants and leather vests with no shirt underneath was pretty drastic for then. I also saw them about 10 years later playing a stadium thinking they were so mainstream. Ric was also in Illeana Douglas rom-com WEDDING BELL BLUES.

Saw Raoul in the theater ONCE and remember liking it. I think this makes an interesting double feature disk with never seen Private Parts. House '77 was cool, but I showed it to my teenager who was scarred for life. Any of you MST fans, the Town That Dreaded Sundown is by the same "rare male ****" guy who did Boggy Creek. Same schlock style fun.

No, Rocky Horror Picture Show is wonderful. The sequel- Shock Treatment -was the worst thing I've ever seen.

Absolutely. The focus shifted from Mary's personal life to Mary's life at the office. There still were storylines of her dating, but it was incredibly funny when Mary & Rhoda double dated. I never saw anything as funny as the early double date with the two "wild & crazy guys". Lord almighty, I've had my share of those!

Nice description. I only saw this once, in the theater and remember liking it a lot. I went with co-workers and heard an audible groan early on when the lead character spoke to the camera. I loved Theresa Russell in this and always wondered why she didn't become a bigger star.

I have the same experience. ! was 10-16 first time around & thought it was funny. Then re-watched it a few summers ago, now in my mid 50's still found it funny. Hilarious actually. I'm very heartened younger generations were exposed to these great classic shows on Nick At Night, and it's a testament to their quality they still entertain new generations of fans.

Why verbs like "bake" or "cook" are worth using.

Shemp Howard is the finest looking actor in histiry!

I always thought there was a slight resemblance between Moe Howard and John Garfield. If you compare Moe's face with his wife's, you can see the family has rather large heads and small stature, a physical proportion that photographs well. -
I understood you. I was just making an observational counter point. Focusing on horror for October is predictable, but these chestnuts always helps gear me up for the holiday itself. Personally, I enjoy Christmas movies best in July and Beach movies in February. Obviously.
-
No, but like New Years Eve, Halloween is often a "stay home" holiday. There's nothing I enjoy more than watching classic horror movies (or horror comedies, etc) in between trick or treaters. I know the films well enough, leaving the room for 5 minutes won't matter much. I often enjoy "holiday marathons", TV themed ones as well as classic movies, probably because at my age I don't go out much.

Yay! They're holding an authentic 6 oz Victor Mug in that pic!

Jerome "Curley" was considered the most handsome in the family, I'm guessing enhanced by his happy-go-lucky demeanor, often possessed by the youngest sibling. He was known as being real popular with the ladies while Moe & Shemp were the more settled down domestic brothers. Among the family, though Samuel "Shemp" was considered the funniest. -
Role Model: I was about 10-15 years old when MTM Show was on. My Mother worked in the fashion industry and I always knew women could have a rewarding career. A few years later I got my first job as Window Dresser, just like Rhoda - although by that time it was called "Visual Merchandiser". As an artist I knew my life would be like Rhoda's, living in a cramped attic apartment in contrast to college educated Mary who had a higher paying "career" who could afford a nicer, more spacious living space. I think everyone knew Rhoda was beautiful except her character, as it is so often in real life. I loved when she won the Hemple's Dept Store Beauty Contest. The writing on that show was extraordinary. Thank you Valerie Harper, for not only making us laugh, but crafting a great role model for many of us.

I love how people interject emotions into the equation. It's all about what movies are available to broadcast and how much they cost. Typically, Svengoolie (or whomever owns the broadcast station) has gained exclusive "rights" to show Universal horror movies (which include some Hammer) and they're simply not offered to other stations, like TCM. Sometimes in order to get rights to show one movie, the station has to buy a "package" and is obligated to show all the movies in the package. Often the other movies are not suitable for broadcast on the particular station. Why the heck do you think XANADU is on TCM UNDERGROUND? Why do you think TCM even HAS an Underground? It's the "catch-all" for all the oddball titles bundled in a package.

Somewhat Off-Topic: What have you been reading lately?
Tikisoo replied to misswonderly3's topic in General Discussions
In both books (Me & My Shadow/Get Happy) they state Ethel, Mom as the first one to give Judy uppers. Then sleep aids. And they state this staff was going on when Judy was 12-14? MGM just took up where Mom left off. Awful. I can't imagine the toll it takes on your body. (although I've had a straight dose of coffee every day for 40 years...) -
Perfectly stated. I rely on opinions from this message board a LOT. I especially like when I have a negative reaction to a film and am urged to give it another try Often the entire movie is experience differently, or I may be a different person. This message board is an excellent resource, even better when you get to know some of the members and their likes/dislikes. But my Mother once told me, "Never put in writing anything you wouldn't want the whole world to see" and I think there's a lot of random chaff on the internet. It's nice to see common literacy too, like here for the most part. I know a few professional reviewers and when you read a really good review it's not opinion, it's more an educated description for you to decide. It's nice when they bring in a personal touch such as, "I was very entertained by the bear" but good reviews are somewhat detached. EXACTLY the opposite of this message board.

Most of those titles are available at my library-including SNEAKERS and a few I've never heard of like this: Poitier is a favorite in this household, both from his wonderful portrayal in movies and his incredible writing. MEASURE OF A MAN is one of my all time favorite books. He's an extraordinary person. Yeah, those TCM's film choices are old chestnuts, but what an overall great body of work! Many of those titles are favorites. I've only two days to look over the entire schedule & figure out what's new to view this month!

Another perfect example of how low standards are. Everyone thinks they can write reviews, everyone thinks they can do better than professionals, everyone thinks their opinions matter. This is why "media" is always inviting the public to chime in with their comments, it just feeds the empty narcissistic nation we've become. I had a very poorly designed West Virginia tourism business card & trifold brochure framed on my desk when working as a graphic designer. I'd show it to my boss whenever he complained our print design was "taking too long" to illustrate the difference between a professionally designed work & amateur designed work: "It may look good on the monitor, but not when printed." I also had a ghastly photo printed from a kiosk next to a properly printed photo to show the vast difference in quality. Many just don't realize the difference unless they see a side by side comparison. That "review" should be used in school as an example. Show a comparison for your students to see it's worth the effort to do something well.

Avoided a/r issues by duping a library copy. Another "new" TV shocker- TVs no longer COME WITH REMOTES. First they got rid of all the buttons on the actual set in case your remote breaks/gets lost. NOW they've simply eliminated the remotes thinking just everyone streams and uses Alexa/Siri whatever the spoken flavor of the month.... I had to buy my 90 y/o Mom a new TV last week, mostly due to remote unit malfunction. (the TV wasn't so hot either) There were very few choices available with remote units included!
