  1. Really? that's interesting. I bought one for $1500 a little over 20 years ago as a gift. Not working, but body was in great shape. The guy called the color Chevy "Larkspur Blue". I thought it was the most common car in the most common color which is why it was so cheap. The person I gave it to was a fellow restorer so it was like an "investment" gift.
  2. Yeah- Hayward & Mitchum- wow! Glad others enjoy her too, I remember DGF complimenting her. I can't help delighting in Hayward as floozy (my Mom named me after her) and have a lobby card of Hayward blindfolded in the electric chair from I WANT TO LIVE!
  3. She's still very beautiful, in good health & enjoying classic movies. I'll bet she's thrilled TCM is honoring her for SUTS!
  4. Yeah, I agree with the OP-Isn't It Romantic is everywhere. Not a very good song either, imho.
  5. So grateful he was with us so long! What an incredible contribution he made to entertainment! Thank you Hal!
  6. Here's the airplane hangar-looking exactly the same- where the Time Transport was stored. Also where Nick Miller got his face bashed in by the director's college buddy. (unusual sliding glass window doors) Almost bought a Castleton shirt from Edgewood Studios website, but David Giancola wasn't in: Are those VHS tapes....a stack of 4" floppies?
  7. The last movie I rented from Netflix was HELVETICA, a documentary (about the font) I had heard about from the Toronto Film Festival-it was worth seeing and I've never seen it offered anywhere since. NEVER found the Saul Bass documentary.... For a long time Netflix mail library included rare classic film titles too, like Jesse Matthews movies you certainly couldn't find at your local library OR shown on TCM.
  8. That is shocking, as GGGerald said afterwards, since they have been free in syndication for years. I think it's to adjust the public mindset that nothing is free anymore. MrTiki subscribed to Netflix for some show he liked. I've tried getting into several "popular" shows, but find them pretty stupid. (HAPPY, the vampire one with Drew Barrymore, etc) Thanks for the recommendation of DARK, I'll give it a try. Searching the streaming movie section, I find NONE of the interesting, oddball or classic titles found in Netflix's mail subscription library their reputation was built on. Rock on laffite! I won't miss Netflix when it's dropped and boycott all Disney anyway. Obviously, my tastes don't fit in most of streaming's target audience.
  9. I'd cast my favorite Joe Estevez as Brian Wilson. He has the same cuddly cute boyish look as Brian Wilson & is a really good actor. In LOVE & MERCY, Paul Dano played young Brian W. convincingly, but Joe Estevez would have been so much better than John Cusack as a mature Brian W. You know THAT will come out of the woodwork in the wake of this movie.
  10. Thank you for expressing my feelings exactly. Signed: Just Another Dude
  11. OK I resurrected this old thread because I recently visited Rutland/Castleton VT-yes the location setting of TIME CHASERS! Recognize this? Yes, that's me standing in front of Gen-Corp on my way to meet Bob Evil. More to come... What do you think, sirs?
  12. ....and so far you can still record if using a dish network. (for now)
  13. WOW-that's the first time you've ever aborted watching a movie, Lawrence. You've sat through some of the most insipid, boring, disgusting drivel....now we know you draw the line at violence towards animals. I'm also assuming you were disgusted because it was real, not "acting" as in most movies.
  14. Haha agree with both previous posters....I record (anything not available at the library) from TCM, much preferring just to borrow, not own. My biggest issue is the plethora of TCM recorded disks that can't be categorized & put away into any "box set" and more than once recorded the same movie twice, forgetting it already had been seen. That's why I gladly give away movies like CLUNY BROWN that were just meh.
  15. (I realize this doesn't pertain to you in NYC area) but that's exactly how Amazon has dominated the Marketplace, following Wal*Mart's initial community decimation. Amazon caters to suburbanites who no longer have easy access to real stores. I find it funny/sad so many are willing to drive a 30-45 minute commute but won't shop in real store because it's "too much of a drive". All those obsolete retail jobs are being replaced with de-humanizing warehouse jobs.
  16. Even better when you have an independent "used" retailer in town. I love second-hand book/music/movie stores especially because of "no shipping" (when does domestic mail use a ship?) & supporting local business. Most used bookstores are starting to add DVD sections and I've found entire collections of rarities, like Something Weird or Kino titles. (I won't buy from Amazon)
  17. Still have never seen this movie. Is it worth watching if you're not interested in sports?
  18. I don't know what movie it's from, or whether it's already been quoted in this thread. But I have a note stuck to my computer that says, "She has that "man wanted" look in her eyes" that I'm sure must come from a movie.
  19. If "disk is dead", isn't the the mega-companies biggest threat free streaming? Are they afraid of pirating if their movies are available on disk? Eventually there will be easily accessible streaming pirating software available anyway. My philosophy: If you don't give someone what they ask for they will end up "taking" it anyway.
  20. I'm less & less enthused about visiting AZ...why oh why do Americans support the "chaining" of America?
  21. I too watched all the CAR 54's a year or so ago-what a revelation! I was too young to remember anything about it except that my older brother laughed his ashes off. For the most part it was very well written, so gentle by today's standards. My only beef was Toody's dumb Ooo-ooh. But NYC cops personally helping out someone on their "beat" by picking up groceries? Amazing how much the world has changed. Great to see Charlotte Rae & Nipsey Russell so young, although they didn't change much as they aged. And Bruce Kirby is Bruno Kirby's Dad, they look so much alike at the same age.
  22. Again, your wife confirms her good taste. I reacted the same way seeing the trailer for the first time yesterday. Amid all the "fun happy Hollywood" scenes, I just knew the culminating plot was going to turn to the Manson Family. I really, really hope the story focuses on Manson's early aspirations of stardom (with the Beach Boys, etc) and his failures resulting in megalomania. I find that aspect of his personality most fascinating & chilling, not the horrific murders themselves. Closing your eyes doesn't work in a Tarantino film-the sound effects are often worse. I'll wait for this to come to the library, watch the end first (with sound off) to appreciate the editing/special effects artistry, then watch the movie up to that point. Works for me!
