I searched, Mr. Kehr, but have been unsuccessful in finding the answer for you. How curious!

"The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp"?

1915's The Tear That Burned? [Wasn't this the story of Kimberly-Clark and their difficulties inventing Kleenex?]

What a strange coincidence: it seems as if Mr. Brynner has a swatch of angora his head! Regarding Glen or Glenda and A Star is Born, are you referring to Timothy Farrell, who was the narrator of Glen and the baliff in A Star Is Born?
-
What's the link between "Glen or Glenda" and the Judy Garland version of "A Star is Born"? Oliver Niles wore angora under his suit?

Did he have hair then?

What an interesting and articulate posting from Moirafinnie. It's no wonder she was missed! I'd like to echo kimbutgar's wish to see a black cinema day once a month. There are so many black-produced movies that I've heard about, yet have never had the opportunity to see. I would like to see african-american work reflected on TMC year 'round...

In that case, I'm going with Yul Brynner... now I just need to figure out to whom he was married in 1948...

I was mentioning this same issue last week in another thread; the curious phenomenon that all the movies I'm dying to see are broadcast between midnight and 6am. I was thrilled that Idiot's Delight was shown at a more civilized hour (8:30am) earlier this week. What a great way to start the day. It'd be swell if they'd repeat some of these wee hours oddities on Friday night. Emperor's Candlesticks, anyone?

Even before A Tree Grows in Brooklyn she was a wise-cracking gal with a heart of gold in many Busy Berkeley musicals. Her work in the 1970's televison series Here Come the Brides is soon to be released on DVD. -

Just saw Gina Gerson last night in her latest release, One Last Thing! Alas, not too much for her to do in it... -
It's time to switch cable companies. I've lived in Florida (Ft. Lauderdale and South Miami Beach) and have been able to attain TCM. Check it out!

Black and White relations in Hollywood

"Why the fascination with black life then? Why did whites crowd into Harlem nightclubs?" Things haven't changed that much. Look at the all the white junior high and high school kids from Iowa and Nebraska who, for the past 15 years have been fascinated with rap videos and have taken up the aesthetics of gangsta rap -- the clothes and accessories, the jargon. No milieu could be more different from their reality than urban, inner-city, hip hop; yet they're fascinated by it. I imagine it's "exotic" to them. And I imagine 1920's and 1930's Harlem was thought to be exotic too. It was cool to go to the Cotton Club. "Won't go to Harlem, in ermine and pearls. Won't dish the dirt with the rest of the girls; That's why lady is a tramp!" Lorenz Hart -

Sounds like the Paramount Hotel to me. It's on 46th, Philippe Starck... yup, that's probably the one! http://www.nycparamount.com/ -
Hmmm, I was going to guess Peter Lind Hayes and Mary Healey, but I'm unsure of their level of fame...

Oh jeez, you're right, feaito: Kim Carnes! Thank you! I understand that Miss Davis contacted her to thank her and the songwriters (Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon) for making her a part of "modern history".

What's your fave Bette Davis movie(s)?
JackBurley replied to rhonda37216's topic in General Discussions
I saw Beyond the Forest at a revival in San Francisco's Castro Theatre. The performances were so over-the-top as to seem somewhat of a car wreck (or train wreck, in this case) to me. It had high kitsch appeal (along with Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?) though. But this was long ago; perhaps I should make an effort to see it again with new eyes... -

All About Eve The Little Foxes Jezebel Now Voyager Mr. Skeffington When I was a child, the radio and television ads for Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? would terrify me and send me crying to my room. The movies that I need to see or rediscover: Watch on the Rhine, Old Acquaintance, and The Old Maid. -
Roscoe Lee Brown is a great actor with a handsome voice; which was put to good use as the narrator for the movie Babe.

Ironically, it sounds great to me! I'd sign up for that station...

Just thought I'd add that Mr. Gelbart was also nominated for an Oscar for writing Tootsie.
