  1. In 1953 did this get by the censors? Appropriate since "From Here to Eternity" on TCM tonight. We know that a lot of the James Jones novel was left out of the film, but there was a somewhat risque line for 1953 when Donna Reed sees Frank Sinatra drunk and drinking more and says to him, "you keep up that drinking like that and you'll be as much use (to me?) tonight as a melted candle". I'm not one for censorship so I think it was great the writers got that into the movie. However, does anyone know the history of why the line was not censored? Did the censors miss it? Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that the line was pushing the envelope in 1953, even if (to me) was not in the phrase. My memory is not 100% on the exact words used. Any comments from anyone?
